I would pretty much stay away from the chat. There isn't usually much going on in the chat when someone from the UK gets on, unless you wake up early or go to bed late.

Depends. On the weekdays, finding a lively chat might be hard, but I think you'll have more time available to spend on the weekends if you want. XD

And here's a more in-depth description:
FFR R1:
This is the main game.
In all sections except for the Secret and Purchased sections, any song you see on the lists are instantly available.
To unlock songs in the Secret section, you must have in your current total a minimum to unlock certain songs. The song you'll unlock last in this section currently is "Gradeus".
To unlock songs in the Purchased section, you unlock them through buying the songs with the credits that you get from playing games in the Shop menu, which is located just below the Challenge icon.
Aside from playing levels, there is the Challenges menu, where you can send challenges to others that are done by issuing one and then playing a song.
Multiplayer is located below the game screen. There, you can play others in real-time multiplayer. You can either join a room to see if you can play someone, or to see what's happening in it. You can also make your own room if you want to play. There is also a chat in the lobby.

FFR R2:
Game that is similar in play to DDR, though Freeze arrows and grading systems are different.

Where you are right now if you're reading this really long post of mine. You can post in topics and make topics, as long as you follow the rules. As you can see, there is also a count displaying the number of posts you've made (Just pointing out XD).

FFR IIR:
This is a DDR arcade score-tracking system. If you play DDR and want to record scores, you can input them here as long as you got them while playing on an arcade DDR machine (or Dancing Stage, I guess, being that Dancing Stage is DDR with an European name...=/ )

FFR Radio:
Listen to music here, though most of the time music from DDRMAX2 (possibly as a megamix) is played with sprinklings for some FFR music. Occassionally, there will be radio shows, though.

FFR Simfiles:
If you play Stepmania, you can download edits here or upload them.

FFR Files:
Some downloads can be found here.
