    Half-Life 2: Substance

This mod gets my awesome seal of approval. Imagine the HL2 campaign, but harder, more fun, and TON of new features added to the gameplay experience.

Half - Life 2 : Substance enhances the HL2 single player experience John Woo style, has a new action oriented gamestyle, deadly challenges and extra gorish killings make it the best choice for HL² veterans who hunger for more replay value. Welcome to the real Substance, what action is made of!

    Features:
The Substance campaign bugfixed and revisited with bullsquids, houndeyes & assassins
The vanilla campaign is available too, in the all new weapons and Hev Forms fashion
An all new VR Training map to acquaint yourself with the latest new features and make you skills perfect
The HEV Forms class system: choose the one that suits your personal gaming tastes best between the 'Liquid Snake Form' (attack), 'Big Boss Form' (survival) and 'Solid Snake Form' (stealth)
A whole new set of weaponry
Bullet Time advanced, Friendly Fire with retaliation system and now also Open Wounds! Crouch to stop the bleeding and regen your health, if badly injured
Many new customizable hotkeys, including the Halo-life Melee Attack & Grenade Toss buttons and the Skill & Cheats buttons!

    RE: Half-Life 2: Substance

    This game is TOTALLY AWESOME.

Only 2 things slightly annoy me.
The first thing slightly annoying is that while all the guns they list on the website are in the game, I think their models or animations aren't finished yet so when you pull out a special weapon usually it looks like you're not holding any weapon at all. Just a blank screen. BUT, they're there, and they work, and they ROCK. The second thing is that you can't use bullet time when in vehicles (or at least not in an airboat). Whine about it all you want, the Bullet Time is freaking fun. Take this, for example:
You're in a dark gloomy hallway. You're in Solid Snake form, using his silenced superpistol that kills manhacks in one shot and has a zoom-in. EIGHT MANHACKS STORM IN. What do you do? You activate bullet time, fire 8 bullets (one per manhack) in rapid succession, and when you turn off bullet time the manhacks seemly explode all at the same time. It's like that thing from Shinobi where you have kill as many guys as quickly as possible so they'll all die in an awesomer way. It's greatness.
The different forms (Liquid Snake, Solid Snake, Big Boss) all have awesome powers and, for the most part, are pretty balanced. I prefer using Liquid Snake's infinite ammo + bullet time jump, unless I can close-range ambush the combine or need to run really fast, in which case I'll switch to Solid Snake, use my camoflauge to get near, melee the nearest guy and pick off the rest with pistol headshots.

Hey, this could be the coolest thing ever...

If it didn't CRASH every 30 seconds.

I've already uninstalled it because I'm tired of having to do a hard reset when this locks up on me. 4 times in a row is non-coincidental.

Ouch. That sucks pretty hardcore. I'd ask if you had done the Sound Cache option and downloaded the 1.1 patch and other suggestions, but you've already uninstalled it.

I have the patch. I have the Sound Cache. I lied about uninstalling, but I'm gonna do it soon.

It was fun while it lasted. Not having played any Metal Gear Solid games hinders my ability to appreciate it to the fullest.

Meh. There's really nothing to appreciate, the mod creator just decided to name them after MGS characters.

I reeeaaaally look foward to seeing if bullettime works on the Buggy. What I do not look foward to is Ravenholm with 3 times as many zombies.

So is this single player only? If so.....I shan't be getting it.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

                  RE: Half-Life 2: Substance

Once upon a time, I met a gamer who said he only played for the competition, not for fun. He said he hadn't played a single player game in a year and a half. He said that playing video games just for the competition and winning money in tournaments was no different from professional football players in the NFL.

I told him that I felt like puking my guts out. I told him I felt like this because he was a vile, disgusting freak of nature that had no right to call himself a Gamer. I told him that not playing for the fun of it shows a ridiculously immense ignorance for the spirit of gaming itself. Resisting the urge to spit on his face and make a scene, I flipped the bird and quickly left the place.

I really didn't mean all that directed at you, eb. It's just that your comment reminded me of that guy.

Well I'm not completely against playing single player, it's just that I've already played through HL2 single player before, and if this mod is nothing but a pimped out version of that, I don't really want to play. I tend to play through a game once and then maybe start it on the hardest setting and get halfway through before I'm bored out of my mind, so I don't think I'll bother.

Yeah, I thought this mod offered a new storyline / new maps. That's why I got it. You made it seem as though the entire game would be revised =X

Just keep us updated on that Legend of Mana or whatever mod it is, and the Goldeneye mod.

Sadly, there's like 50 mods for HL2 in the works, and only, like, 4 have anything playable or seem to be progressing. =/
