Detroit, Michigan -- Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks is dead.
Her refusal to give up her seat to a while man on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955, resulted in her being jailed -- a defiant act that led to the bus boycott that many believe sparked the modern civil rights movement.
Her death was reported by the Detroit Free Press and television station WDIV. She most recently lived in Detroit.
