    The Island

    I loved it!

I think it was well directed and the action was actually exciting... not to mention to great acting. Ewan is fantastic.

Of those who saw it, what'd you guys think?

It was much better than it looked like it was going to be. The acting didn't seem too bad either, they were supposed to act ignorant and programmed.
        Nice.

I saw some many advertisements for The Island in Tokyo...it was everywhere, subways, posters, commercials; there was no escaping it. While in Japan I thought: obviously it was a western production with a western cast, probably even an American production, so why did I not see any ads for "the Island" in America? To this day, I still havent seen one ad for The Island.

          I am baffled.

I was on the imdb site and they said that the marketing for it was horrible... and that the movie actually did poorly because there was no advertising in the states.

It's a shame really... I think a lot of people missed out on a good movie.

Haha, the marketing was pretty good for me because I go to the theaters a lot, where I repeatedly saw trailers for The Island. So, I had to see it because it looked so cool. As for the acting question, I didn't like the "guy's" acting in particular...he just didn't convince me that he loved the "girl" and was fairly monotonous. ^_^

Actually, the movie was a global success but a local failure; the rest of the world loves it, we don't.

I saw this about a month ago... along with 10+ other movies this summer. So, my apologies for being unable to give an amazing critique about it.

I'll be forced to go with "it was a good movie. I enjoyed it despite the AMAZING number of scientific impossibilities and retarded concepts that could have easily been changed to make everything run smoothly thus negating a movie. Not to mention the multiple times Ewan and Scarlett died, yet somehow didn't... especially falling FROM 700 FEET IN THE AIR AND LANDING IN A NETTING LIKE IT WAS NOTHING."

Apart from that, Scarlett is mad hot. I'd hit it.

Well... I think it's believable that you could survive that fall if you landed in a net the way they did.
                      Plus, Jesus loves them.

Scientific impossibilities? It's in the future, don't be so sure!

Cell Phones... fine. Chip implants to track us... fine. Falling 700 feet into a net and not suffering so much as rope burn.... not fine.

You realize that you're falling at over 250 mph (I forget what terminal velocity is for a free falling human). 250mph factored with about a 180lb man and 120lb woman into a not-so-special net.... bye bye net.

                            hahaha.

Look in the guiness book of world records... there's all kinds of things that make less sense than a couple people falling into a net and living... and that's not even in movies.

Terminal velocity is only like 160 some mph O_O Not to mention that is with the like, proper aerodynamic form. A regular human would only fall around 110 mph ^_^

Well, from a regular fall. If you want to talk about jumping from 40 miles above the earths surface, and falling for minutes, you could break the speed of sound.

There was a guy that survived a fall from a parachute jump from like 10,000 feet when his parachute didn't work XD

Anything is possible. Improbable, but hey, it's a movie.

The movie was excellent btw. There was a lot of advertisement here in canada ;o One of the better moves this summer. I would rank it just as well as batman.
