    DDR Tournaments.

I recently signed up for a DDR Tournament at a Namco arcade in my mall. They, for some un-Godly reason, have no idea about the rules or what's going to happen. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I should expect...like is there going to be difficultly classes, or are songs picked at random and stuff like that. Thank you.

    RE: DDR Tournaments.

Oh, you mean the Nationwide DDR Tournament. Yeah...I don't even know how this works...the tournament setup I mean...It's supposed to be Perfect Attack though...All I know is that I'll p00n everyone that enters... Anyway, it's separated into Standard and Heavy divisions. A qualifying song is picked for each course. Pass, and you're in the tournament roster. From there, it's an actual duel. You play against whoever you were paired with; one person picks which side to play on, the other picks the first song. Then the one who picked the pad picks the next song. If another song is neccessary, the last is picked at random. Whoever has the most perfects minus misses wins. That's how Perfect Attack is played in my arcade, yours may be different. I don't think that the "subtract your misses" thing is standard in most PA's...but the last tournament held in my arcade had some fool who decided to only step to what he knew...got virtually half perfects, half misses. People decided that wasn't fair.

      RE: DDR Tournaments.

The one I was in had everyone qualify with the same song...Synchronized Love Standard, no mods (not even speed). Damn, that one's hard to PA. Hell, I can't even FC it yet, which is pretty sad for a 5-footer. Anyway, after everyone qualified and the number of perfects everyone got was recorded, people were broken up into brackets depending on where in Detroit they lived, then matched up based on ranking. (I wouldn't count on that regional thing in the tourney you're going to.)

I ended up second in the 3 people representing from North. The first guy only took 3 songs to beat because after a song, the winner picks a mod from a bag. The first one was one off my list, Love Shine Heavy. I got him even after picking a 3/4 score mod. (It was close.) The one I drew for the second song was "You Lose." X( I managed to get him again on the third, and then get a "Nothing Happens."

At least the guy that pwned me went on to win the whole thing, so that's sort of comforting.

I don't know if you're going to have that mod thing, but work on the songs you plan to play, and most importantly your PA. Nobody goes off the number of points the game recorded for you.
