Hey, my friend just told me about this site today and I'm already lovin' it up. So much so that my fingers tend to lock up when trying to do some of the more complicated beats.
There are some things that I think need to be addressed though. As a long time fan of games like DDR and Frequency this site is a godsend. But something that seems to be lacking is sort of introductory songs. Anyone who has ever played Frequency or the like and look at it in depth can see that some of the songs introduce you to new methods or new "theories" of beat capture. Same thing with DDR. The easier songs introduce new techniques like rolling from one side of the pad (or whatever) to the other, etc... This seems to be severely lacking in FFR.
Granted, I know you're probably not big time game developers but this is something that can easily be addressed. In a lot of songs I've noticed long sets of repetative beats for the mere sake of increasing the difficulty of the song as opposed to actually going with the beat or having a distinct reason (a lot of drum beats in a row, etc...) for the long list of same beats.
The arrows should be more of an indication of the type of beat coming up, not merely a tool to turn the song into a game. Some of the beats I understand and agree with like dual-key sets (left and right, up and down, whatever) on chords or something (I especially noticed this in Moonlight Sonata, a great touch) but others seem to just be poorly placed.
The only way I can think of going about this is to just play each song over and over, and make sure you really want to put a chord-type beat there or a long line of beats. DDR and Frequency were so good because you could close your eyes and, even if you didn't know WHAT beat was coming up, you knew a beat was coming up. FFR seems to have a lot of dead space where there should be a beat and a lot of beats where there shouldn't be. Maybe there should be a method for people to offer suggestions on each song or even a song creator (where we could add/delete our own arrows and offer that as a suggestion for a certain part, or all, of the song). Without at least one person dedicated to this task full time it would be near impossible to make each song as good as it could be, even then it would be daunting at least. Tapping the community you already have would be the best way to do this IMO.
I'd even like to see a nice set of songs improved before I saw more added.
Also take this as constructive critiscm only, in no way does this mean I dislike the game, quite the contrary in fact. I would just like to see it reach of a level of true greatness.
Just my .02 cents...
