Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

    Developper: Gearbox
    Publisher: Ubisoft
Platform: PS2, XBox, GameCube, PC; Tested on a PS2

    1. Introduction to the game

Brothers in Arms is a World War 2 first person shooting game. You play as Baker (forgot his first name). He is a squad leader and he has 13 men under his commad. You are a soldier of the U.S. army Airborne in Normandy. You have been parachuted at D-Day and you lost most of your men during the drop. You find some soldiers on you way to your objectives.

    2. Graphics

BIA has his own engine. The engine, suprisingly programmed by only 4 programmers is what I would call a low quality engine. The poor render has a dreamy effect that cannot be turned off. The players and weapons are low-poly models with low-res textures. They look horrible. The animations are not smooth, they do not look real and do not blend with each other. The soldiers do not look as if they were real. The grass moves constantly as if blown by the wind, always at the same speed, constantly and in the same direction. The view is very limited and it seems like you have a 10% zoom all the time, wich is very annoying.

    3. Gameplay

    A. Controls

Please remember that I have played this game on a Playstation 2 so the controls aren't the same on all platforms.

The controls are floppy. The movements are ok, but the aiming sucks. If you stand up while aiming, the weapon shakes in a pattern movement. It makes you dizzy. You always have to wait for the sight to be on your target before shooting, thus risking of getting shot. The buttons aren't set very good and at first there is no tutorial to show you how to use the controls. Pressing R3 for TOGGLE aim down the sight? No thanks. I'd rather use R2, wich would be way easier.

    B. Artificial Intelligence

The artificial intelligence in the game simply sucks. The enemies still shoot you when they don't see you, never hide good enough (you can always spot an arm to shoot even if they're hidden), they act simply stupid. You teammates never hit your enemies, don't move out correctly, never use real combat strategies such as supressing fire or throwing grenades. You are always the one getting shot and you can't just let your allies follow you, you have to order them to do that.

    C. Squad system

My review of the squad system will be short since I didn't really have the time to use it. All I know is that you can see the entire map, including the enemy. A longass, non-interactive tutorial shows you how to use it. That's all I can say really...

    4. Conclusion

What I liked about the game

-The aim down the sight wich looks totally awesome
-The squad system wich can be useful, although could of been even better

    What I disliked

-The athmosphere isn't good. You don't feel like you are at war
    -Poor graphic render
    -Poor animations
    -Stupid enemies

    Final note: 5/10

Don't buy this game, rent it.

I hope this helped. Please post any feedback.

Once you've played Medal of Honor, you've pretty much played them all.

Call Of Duty is a lot better than Medal of Honor, but still not great.
