      RE: War of the Worlds

I saw a quick preview of this... Is it just going to be another overhyped overspecial-effects and bad movie from Spielberg? Like AI.

      Time will tell.

Don't doubt Tom Cruise..... He made Top Gun a miracle movie... Really if it were some other guy playing the role Tom Cruise played in Top Gun we would never have known that movie existed.... Plus some of Tom Cruises better movies aren't that popular...

I dunno if this is going to be that great.....I am a huge fan of the book, plus Spielberg screwed up AI soooo badly. Tom Cruise is okay, but I wouldn't call Top Gun a "miracle" movie.

            RE: War of the Worlds

Top Gun was one of his better movies... but he's had some not-so-good films recently. Some have been good, others not so much. Lets look for a sec:

Collateral wasn't bad, decent job in his first "evil" role.
Last Samurai I refused to see as it looked beyond terrible.
Minority Report was more than average. Too much in the SE department and a weak plot. (director: Spielberg)
Vanilla Sky was weird as anything. Not good. Very weird.
            MI2 was awful. Enough said.
            Magnolia I haven't seen. Can't comment.
Eyes Wide Shut wasn't good either. Kubrick's last film fell short of some of his earlier masterpieces.

Those are all his films in the past 6 years. One good film and the rest were average or worse.

            Now lets look at Spielberg.

The Terminal was decent. Worth seeing if you haven't, but nothing I'll be telling my kids about.
Catch Me If You Can was great. Everyone should see this, even with Leo starring.
            Minority Report was discussed above.
            AI was mentioned above.
The Unfinished Journey is a film I haven't heard of let alone seen. No comment.

That is all his films since 1999.

I'm not seeing greatness coming from this. I expect a large budget film with an average plot that will be twisted and deformed from the book (which is a classic). There will be way too many SEs and way too many explosions, even for War of the Worlds.

It comes out a month after the final Star Wars movie.

              It won't be fantastically successful.

Hey, Last Samurai was a beautiful movie. Tom Cruise acting like a Samurai though, euhhh....no comment.

Tom Cruise being a samurai...ehhhhhhhhhh I'm asian so go i say he can fuck himself. Reminds me of a Chappelle's Show where there was a skit called "________ on movies" (cant remember the guys name) but anyways he said that after watching that skit he was gonna make a movie called "The Last ***** on Earth" starring Tom Hanks or something to that effect.

I thought Collateral was a really well done movie. Tom Cruise did a good job...though honestly, it wasnt anything "spectacular."

Though he did a good job in the Last Samurai...even if they movie wasnt 100% historically accurate.

Though, this is a remake...and usually movies that are "remade" dont do well. I havent seen the Terminal yet, but I heard it wasnt too grand...considering it starred Tom Hanks and was directed by Spielberg....

The trailer didnt really make we want to see the movie. From my understanding War of the Worlds during the earlier stages of man, aliens visited the Earth, deciding to conquer it at a later time, however, they didnt not anticipate the rate at which mankinds intellect evolved. Thus, when they returned, they found a civilization with the technology similar to theirs.

As far as Tom Cruise is concerned, Last Samurai was fantastic, Collateral was amazing, Mission Impossible was wonderful (granted 2 sucked donkey genitals) Magnolia was a triumph and being a considerably large Kubrick fan, I would have to say Eyes Wide Shut was one of his best films.
