    RE: Flying High

First off, this song doesn't really have any form. The original theme is never reiterated and there is no real development. Also, that lead synth is too bright, perhaps a bit less resonance on it? It also clashes with the strings in the background. The stero spectrum also sounds a bit empty. Load this up in a stectrograph and see how it looks, it will look rather empty. I think the melodies here would work alot better acoustically also.

yea sample-wise many things are clashing. i also personally think you should introduce that bassline earlier, which may be why the spectrum would be pretty plain. and turn down the envelope on the melody? didnt really like the ending or intro either. but dont get me wrong its a good melody, i liked it.

hmm.. I'll fix those up, and see how it sounds. what do you mean the envelope? (using reason here.. not sure what an envelope is ><)

I had it acoustic at first, but then combined it with the other sound, I think you are right though, now that I think about it. I will make it acoustic again.

hmm maybe I will take off the reverb from the drums.. you can barely hear them.

Wait- you're using a synth that doesn't have an envelope? I didn't even know that exists.

Anyways, an envelope is basically at what rate a parameter of a synth is triggered at and how much of an effect it will have. Most envelopes have four parts- attack, sustain, decay, and release. Attack is how fast the parameter reaches the peak of its effect, the sustain is how long it stays at this peak, the decay is how long it will take for the parameter to reach the decay level, and release is how long it will take for the parameter to wear off after a note is completed. Envelopes can effect many things including amplitude, cutoff, res, pitch, etc.
In this case I think dragn is referring to the special envelope that comes with most bassline synths, which sounds like what you used here. Turning this level down will make the res less harsh and vice versa.
As for the song, it has a good melody, but the intruments sound, erm, cheesy? Might need some effects or something.
