If God created man in the picture of himself, then why are there more black people in the world than white people? Or more asians then whites? I cant stand when neo-christians beleive that god is only white, how can they be sure? I love how the movie Bruce Almighty(starring Jim Carrey) choose Morgan Freeman to be God. By the way, Im white myself, but i just dont understand how god can only be white.......OR, is he a mix of every type of human being? Anyone have any explanations? thoughts? inputs? im open!

RE: If God created man in the picture of himself.....
Perhaps God created the most important parts, our minds and souls, in his own image. Physical features mean nothing; there is a vast amount of variety within Humanity and only bigots and egotists would believe that they are a "perfect image" of God. After all, the only parts that return to God in the end are the mind and soul, so that should be a good indication that those parts matter and the others do not. -
RE: If God created man in the picture of himself.....
Isaiah 55:8 kind of counters that argument, DracIV. I don't think God really has a race in the way we think of it. If you go to predominately white parts of the world, you'll see Jesus, Mary, etc. as white. Go to black, Hispanic, Asian, Indian churches, or and you'll see them as members of those races. Personally I don't really care. Jesus is probably closer to a modern-day Arab than any other race, but I don't think that race matters at all when it comes to his teachings. And if depicting him as a different race makes him more identifiable by people of a certain race, more power to them.Comment

God has no physical form. You are trying to contain him down to a human existance, when he is so much more than that. Another reason why he never will is because people would make images of him and worship them instead. AKA Idolatry.
Of course, the catholic church seems to have forgotten that.Comment

A common misconception. Catholics do not worship the images, but simply use them as reminders of their faith.Originally posted by CenrightIdolatry - Of course, the catholic church seems to have forgotten that.
Images of God the Father have been unpopular with Catholics - most Catholic images are of Jesus and saints. (Saints aren't worshiped, either - another common myth.)Comment

RE: Re: RE: If God created man in the picture of himself....
Um.
My Rabbi explains this like all the time, I have heard it alot.
Synopsis: The image of our souls, not our physical image, is what the Bible/Torah was talking about.
Then, the obvious question: Why is everyone such a giant asshole? Why is half the world really fucked up?
Actually, it's because God's an asshole, and he created a fucked up world cause he's fucked up. Look at the world an tell me it's normal.
Or, of course, there is no god and all religion should be promptly abandoned.

Exactly, when terrorists and folks like that kill people in order to prove a point, they are considered evil and f*cked up. However, when God kills all the innocent, first-born children in Egypt to prove a point, people create a holiday and celebrate the slaughter.Originally posted by QreepyBORISActually, it's because God's an asshole, and he created a fucked up world cause he's fucked up. Heh, the holiday was to celebrate getting out of Egypt, though. And celebrate is hardly the right term, cause it's supposed to be all sad and you can't eat real food. Like yeast.Originally posted by jewpinthethirdExactly, when terrorists and folks like that kill people in order to prove a point, they are considered evil and f*cked up. If you have a yeast infection on Passover, is it unkosher? XD

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: If God created man in the pictur
Most people on here know that I'm a general follower of logic. Why, then, do I follow Christianity?
1. There is just as much proof for it as there is against it.
2. Good history lessons involved.
3. There's always a time when I could feel better knowing that there is an all powerful entity around.
4. Who said God was perfect? It makes perfect sense that he screwed up a few times. Otherwise there wouldn't have been thee Great Flood.
5. Believe it or not, Christian ideals do not clash with economic ideals.
Now that I've got that covered I'd like to go to the issue of God's image. I agree that God shaped our souls after his own but I also believe in misinterpretation. I'm sure someone along the line heard God's saying "You were made in my image." as "you look like me." When you think about it, humans don't really look like anything else that came out of the middle east (or many other places, for that matter).
Basically, it's a goof. There are loads of those in the Bible. Much like how Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are right next to each other (one of the most hilarious blunders in the Bible is the placement of those books).
