    any of you do full band audio recording?

    If you do, help me out. Ive got protools LE (no control surface) and sonar 4 producers edition.protools of course has its own PCI card, and ive got both a m-audio and a audigy for sonar. which do you guys prefer? i have mixed feelings for both, seeing as protools awlays works better on a mac, and i hate macs.


    Also, would you prefer a workstation, or a computer driven system?

      I think a computer based system with a good audio interface such as a RME Hammerfall would be the best choice.

      I can't say anything about protools or sonar because I havent used them long enough to really say. Picking an audio production program almost always comes down to a matter of personal preference.

          yeah, as far as I knew protools was mac only period, and it is sadly to say, the best. I hate when these mac asshats buy out these programs so we cant use em anymore. Used to do compositing work in a program called Shake till Mac bought it out too.

              uh..the lead guitarist fro my old band has a pc and uses protools porgy, so I don't know what you are talking about there...

              with that program in particular, i would suggest a pc over a mac only because a pc would offer you a greater ability to customize the machine to give maximum performance for protools.

                  If you have both of those applications, why don't you decide which you like best? They do the same thing pretty much.

                  Protools is "industry standard" because a few years ago, it WAS pretty much the best, however other applications like Sonar have improved quite a bit since then, while Protools is about the same. The only reason Protools is industry standard still is because everyone who doesn't know much about this stuff plays it safe and uses the software that has the "industry standard" title. A lot of recording engineers hate protools and the company behind it, but clients that are not in the know about this stuff think that it's Protools or bust.

                      protools works on PC. I guess i like sonar better though, it runs faster (read, less latency) on my computer. I guess i wasd really wondering if anyone could point out a major flaw one has that i havnt stumbled across yet. And about customizing a PC to run protools better than a mac, it dosnt matter to much with protools. its got its own PCI interface card, and other than that, all you need is good memory and processing speed, which the mac has both.
