Do you even know what happiness is? Everytime someone says "Oh look you're happy" they seem so sure yet does it really matter? Or is it even stupid to be happy.... The only true happiness I've found is total obliviousness in the least serene environments like an amusement park. Do you feel happiness in total consciousness or are we too self loathing to be happy?
What is happiness to you?

being happy makes one feel confident about their life and their current part in affairs. For that I prefer being happy over depression. Every person as a different thing that relaxes them and makes them content. For you it is the amusement park. For me, it is the noises of machinery, rain, and wind. People are not too self loathing ot be happy. I mean, havent you ever had a point in time where you could say "I am having the time of my life?"Every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lives here on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

Admittedly, when I am happy, I don't think very well. I like thinking.
I didn't really read the thread, k.

That's more of serenity which is slightly different than happiness by the amount of chemicals released in your brain. Happiness is short amounts of serotonin releases and no endorphin releasing. Serenity is endorphin releasage with very very little serotonin, almost as if a different emotion.Originally posted by trillobyiteFor me, it is the noises of machinery, rain, and wind."

Come to think of it, I'm not really sure what makes me happy. When I play games, it doesn't really make me happy usually, it entertains me and distracts me from being bored. Usually people make me happy. Things they do just somehow get to me and give me that special happy feeling, which, to be honest, doesn't happen extremely often. So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(
In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.
So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.
Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =OComment

I dont really think true happiness happens much, maybe contentness though, where you are satisfied in the way everything is at the moment.

But what I am trying to say is, each person has a different stimulus for happiness. You said you are most happy and content when oblivious within an active environment. I am most happy and content within more serene environments and noises. Even if it is a different emotion I am experiencing, that emotion leads way to me being relaxed and happy.Originally posted by zildjian133That's more of serenity which is slightly different than happiness by the amount of chemicals released in your brain. So you're saying you'd be sitting in a serene environment with a big smile on your face because you're listening to ambient noises?

I don't express happiness with a big constant smile on my face...
But if you mean would I be relaxed, happy, and feeling good while listening to such ambient noises, then yes. I think everyone has a different definition of happiness, and this is mine.Every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lives here on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

I am happy when someone or something I care about is paying me special attention or compliments.
I am happy when I get alot of sleep and wake up to the cool sunlight.
I am happy when I can tell myself there is no work to do.
I am happy when I make someone I care about happy.
I am happy when I play with my puppy.
I am happy when I try hard and succeed.
I am happy when I can entertain myself and not feel like I've wasted important time.
I can't think of anything else that makes me happy the can't fit into that list. I'm sure lots of your things fit in there too.Comment

Truley this is sad, but...
I am happiest when I am alone, listening to my music, and browsing the forums.
When I am offline I feel like I left behind myself and I always want to go back, like the forums are the biggest community where we know eachother the best. I'm not nearly as close to people as I am online with my friends from the forums.
Yes I have the few offline but online and on forums is my home to me. And thusly is my true happiness, on the forums with my friends, no interuptions, and some very good music I like.Comment
