    Sampling

So let's say I'm listening to a song and I hear some really cool noise, or a really good lyric, or anything like that, and I wanted to pull that part out of a song. Do I need a special uber $1000 program to do this, or could a small free program do it, or is it just not possible? As of right now all I can think of to do is use an equalizer and try and tune out all the sounds other than the one I want, but this leaves what I've taken out sounding weird, and usually with the rest of the song still in the background.

All I want is to be able to do something like pull out Lil' John saying "YEEEEEEEEAH" in some song so I can send it to people, or to perhaps make silly songs using that clip. It's nothing complex, but I have no idea how to do it.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

yes, audacity does work with windows and can do stuff like this. Once you export an audio of what you want from audacity, you can load it into your sequencer.

sampling is completely illegal now , but who gives a shit. If you cant just cut out the sound you want with a wave editor, I would run the sample through a chain of eqs until you've eliminated a sufficient amount of the background noise.

Make a 1000 band eq and cut it out! Other than taking several days, it could work...

Alrighty, so I got Audacity and I've messed with it, but I'm not seeing how it makes it easy to sample sounds. Any help with this would be nice...

Also, is there any place where I could get a song split up into its different tracks? Like, just the drums or just the vocals or whatever? I could have sworn I heard of something like this before, I just don't really know. Again, any help would be awesome.

its impossible to completely separate a songs tracks, but you can come close if you eq skillfully. I've never heard of a program that does that automaticially and doubt there is one that does it, at least well.

Too bad EQing is hard, especially for me....

I was kidding- it's basically impossible to completely cut out a vocal, partly because the vocals can fall on the same or nearly the same bands as parts of the beat. If you look at a spectrum of sound during a song, you can see it basically covers the entire group of audible bands, therefore making it difficult to cut one part out (sounds fall on top of sounds.) You probably can cut it out, but it will almost always have background sound in it.

Yeah, I know all that. Really, what I wanna get are the sounds from Paranoia, in order to make a Paranoia remix. As you may know, Paranoia MIDIs sound like absolute crap because they don't use the actual Paranoia noises. With all the Paranoia remixes, I bet there are already samples of them floating around, but I didn't wanna be lazy and just ask where they might be. I searched on my own and came up with nothing, and other than a few times where the noises are by themselves (like the final noise at the end of some songs) I haven't had much luck in pulling them from the many Paranoia mixes I have. It's annoying, yes, and I may just opt out of doing a Paranoia remix.

Although I would still like to get samples of Lil John and all his stupid interjections....

Or I just suck at using Google. I'll look again eventually. I figure there have to be some somewhere because of all these Paranoia remixes.
