Adding your own songs and the proper files.

Does anyone know where I can find some type of converter that allows me to create a .sm file for a song that I have and edit it? I've been wanting to do this but can't quite figure the proper place to start. If anyone knows, clue me in.
    Thanks,
    Niko

RE: Adding your own songs and the proper files.

so... basically... you want to know how to make a stepfile?

if that is what you want... read this: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...wtopic&t=12565

if that isn't what you want, please post again being more specific. or if you still have questions after reading that, post here.

Alright this is a good start for me. I've used it before, but the problem I kept having was that the song I chose always only played 4 seconds into the song and then ended. The song kept playing through, although the stage had ended and said cleared. I still have this problem and it doesn't address that issue in the help guide and I'm not quite sure what to do.

I followed every step there was to follow. When I go to edit my song it says, "This song is missing a music file and cannot be edited."

This is starting to annoy me. I've consulted other guides as well and nothing works.

this is where everything should be:

          Stepmania\Songs\Nikyo Originals\ThisSong\ThisSong.mp3
          Stepmania\Songs\Nikyo Originals\ThisSong\ThisSong.dwi

make sure to have both of those set up before trying to create the steps for ThisSong in stepmania.

create the ThisSong.dwi file using Notepad.

            Yea

I have the .mp3 and the .dwi properly configured and in the right directory. Not sure what else could be wrong. I have even used Xstep to make the .dwi and it still says missing files. The other songs have .png's and .sm's could it be that I need one of those? I'm not quite sure the signifigance of those files.

              RE: Yea

no. all you need is the mp3 and the dwi. make sure you have the correct starting information in the dwi. like the song title, author... is that explained in the simfile faq?

I finally found a solution. I had to convert the .mp3 to a .wav. No idea why.

Thank you very much for sticking with me and helping me out Tass, it's much appreciated.
