    Another Song By Me

    Check it out,

and as promised, an ff mix for my previously posted song shadows

After butchering up the song, I managed to get it from 3:00 to 1:44.

Tell me what you think, thanks.

K, what music do you consider good so I can see what you're saying?

k, i just listened to your noname song, and its got problems. youre sounds overlap over each other and drown each other out. go back to your mixer and be more careful with the volume of each part. also, the piano melody and the detuned supersaw are in different keys. except if you REALLY know what youre doing, and i mean like better than any popular musician, stay in one key at a time. do you know anything about harmony and chord progressions? do you know anything about mastering? it looks like you dont, so i suggest you put some work into your music. 1. redo the mixer settings, and then master the track 2. make sure everything is in the same key 3. get rid of those annoying sound effects
the style youre trying to work with, mainstream trance, follows a specific format which you should work on (if you want to be creative thats fine but this is generally how its done) 1. bass drum and offbeat bass with cymbols and stuff, builds slowly, parts being added every 16 beats or so 2. snare roll and build up to the breakdown 3. breakdown with detuned saw playing slow, non-rhythmic melody, generally playing with changes between major and relative minor 4. build up with this rhythim, as bass drum and cymbols and bassline etc. get added in 4. the climax 5. "outtro" where parts are removed every 16 beats or so, until there is nothing left

or you could try a different, less constricting genre. or you could try something other than music (my personal suggestion)

I see what you're saying- yea you're right. I'm still new, I'll figure it out eventually. Yea I did notice the the volumes were off, but adjusting them was extremely difficult with the outdated FL 3 I'm using, it'll be better when I get FL4. Thanks for the constructive criticisms though- I appreciate them as much as praises.

I'll stick to music though, it's still fun.

See if you can find a pianist, or skilled musician to teach you. I learned most I know from books, but it is very important that you take advice from experienced people. Join a forum for a website that deals just with production.

actually ive never taken a music theory or composition class before, unless you include school band and a year of piano. and im positive it could help me out, but i think my tune making is above noob, slightly below average?

I'm taking my first theory class this semester, and honestly, I don't think what I've learned thus far is going to help out my music writing too much. Learning what sounds good yourself is a perfectly good way to write music. Formal theory training is not the be all and end all to music writing.

Yea my song sounds good to most people and I but to you 'music theory experts' it sounds off-key and stuff. I'll have to look into it and all.
