Who are you on the Internet?

The other thread was more about typing styles and stuff... so I figured this deserved it's own thread since it would have gone off topic... I actually wrote all this in the quick reply box, then realized I should start my own thread, heh. :P

I tend to put a different personality depending on which kind of board I go into.

This one, I use my real life personality, which I present through the online character qualy. qualy is not a real person, but I put what I would say or do in real life into the words of this character.

In FPS communities, I use the character "fragbait" who is not the real me at all. Fragbait is also not a real person, and is the furthest that one could get from the real me. He tends to be an asshole sometimes (a lot of times :P), but knows when to clean house and he is even a moderator on one forum. He is much more to the point then qualy. He is also a lot more serious than qualy, but is still pretty loose.

Sooo... basically, like the thread says, who are you on the internet?

Me too, except I tend to be nicer on the forums than in real life. Like, I used my 1000th post to help a newb who couldn't get their image to work on the "post your picture thread" and if someone asks for a link or something, I go out of my way to be helpful.

Minus the title of "Squeek" as I like to be referred to (and as is stolen on thousands of websites leaving me with MreSqueek...), I'm the same in reality as I am here. I will actually correct people's grammatical errors in verbal conversations. It's true.

Of course, while'st I love correcting grammar, I also help out often. It's the same here as it is in reality. I fix everything that breaks down in my house because nobody else knows how to and they tend to make it worse.

I also try to be my *true* self as much as possible online. In reality, I have more than one side as it is. To some, I am still the quiet, antisocial Catholic in their English class. To my closest friends, I am a laid-back, logical-thinking Atheist and actor who likes to laugh and have fun. The internet is slightly different, being that online I am a much more straightforward person who enjoys having logical debates. In the real world, I am less open to debates or confrontations, mostly because thinking on my feet is a weakpoint of mine. I also have weird problems explaining myself sometimes, because I forget words a lot (that's called lethologica, for anyone interested). I always search for the word that will describe exactly what I'm trying to say, but that word may be too far off in my brain to dig up. In forums I use a thesaurus to get my exact meaning through. Being an actor, I also take part in Roleplaying in chatrooms and forums, playing many different personalities, but all of them have some roots within myself. Every part I play I can relate to, which is how it should be. I am pretty satisfied with who I am online, but my outward personality needs to be readjusted in real life.

I'm more outgoing on the internet, that's about it. Besides using a lot more smileys :P.

I try to have fun. If that means making jokes, making an ass of myself, or making fun of people, so be it. I'm not trying to make friends or anything. I do this for me, and me only. I only do what is tolerable on forums, I don't want to get banned...yet.

                Awesome topic.

Offline: I'm extremely shy, although when with my friends I can be rather excitable and quite energetic, with the willingness to do just about anything. I don't swear much and I stay away from girls. I'm perfectly fine by myself and am known to spend the whole day doing nearly nothing.

Online: I'm much more prone to using curse words, and my pet peeve is when people mix up your/you're. I also will say anything I'm thinking at the exact moment, and I won't pause. I don't act fake online or try to get along with people just for the hell of it. Sometimes I'll get VERY upset if I think people are acting fake or insincere online because it's the internet and nobody knows who you are. It's dumb to act like someone you aren't.

I'm myself. Analytical, comical, charismatic, popular, etc. If someone's being a dick to me, I do something about it. If someone does something wrong, I do something about it. If something needs to change with the way something works, I do something about it. I don't take no as an answer, I don't like people who try and force their beliefs on others(especially political people, I mean geez I'll "own" those types about the way they are and get a good laugh out of it), I don't like people who try to tell me I can't do something if I want to accomplish/do it. I make lots of dumb jokes. Just about the only way I'm different is ego. I'm really uncofident about myself offline when it comes to asking girls out or situations similar. And if I were to describe myself to someone right next to me I would say as much negative things as possible =) Even as I type this my mind is telling me "shit dude you aren't charismatic wtf" but I know I must be, otherwise I wouldn't be so popular everywhere.

Yea, i'm myself on the internet. I'm not really a whole lot different in real life. If you like me online then you'd like me in person, cause thats just how I am and I usually talk about similar stuff online as to what I would talk about in real life.

That's the case with most people online. They have a differnet personality online, which they can build from scratch anyway they want.

For me, in real life, I tell it like it is. If someone does something I don't like, I'll tell them. If I don't like a person or really like a person, I'll let them know. I guess I'm brutally honest. I feel that I carry the same personality here.

Huh? My personality is the same online. I'm just less egotistical if you meet me IRL.

Yeah I am kinda like you Mwerp, as for your online and IRL deal. But not as popular :P . But yeah i'm definatly not as confident offline as online, which isn't a very good thing to be. I always joke around and try to make people laugh whether it be at school, online or wherever. My personality online would be a little stronger than IRL.
