O.M.F.G.
Twice every year, the CPL holds a giant tournament of Counter-Strike and UT, and I think maybe something else.
Last year it was in Dallas, at the Hyatt Regency. It kicked ass.
This year, it was at the Gaylord Hotel. HOLY SHIT THIS THING OWNS YOUR MOTHER.
It is so much better this year. Last year everyone gathered around a home theater screen and watched the tournament. This year, they got a fucking concert stage and put a fucking huge screen on it. Also I should mention, the people that were playing on stage were playing Natural Selection. Nice choice, boys.
Also awesome about the CPL is that not only can you compete and watch the tournament, but you can bring your own computer, and hook up to a giant 5000 people LAN for an entire week. Plus, they have a crap-load of sponsers(aka nVidia and stuff) and they LOVE to show you cool shit theyre not releasing until next year, and then giving it out to one lucky winner. There were plenty of games out there for non-competitors and non-brought-your-computer-people to play, especially a 32-people small lan for Call of Duty, a DDR booth, and a Free Play arcade machine of Metal Slug 3. Probably my fondest memory was when this one kid was all confused about how to play UT2004, and I was like, "Well what's the problem?" and he was like, "The controls dont work!" so I tried it out, and he was right! Some asswipe reconfigured everything to a random button! So I spent a good 10 minutes in User.ini reconfiguring everything, and had a good time doing it (aka, getting a Monster Kill when you can only move backward, left, right, and shoot. No moving foward or jumping).
Not to mention, there was a buuuuunnnnnnch of free stuff that was there to grab. I have, like, 6 new t-shirts. Oh, and they had some sweet bargains on stuff too. My dad bought, like, the highest quality PC headphones for only $80.
It was so awesome. Hopefully I'm going back today, and with a camera.
