Is it just me, or are FPS's really boring?

    Is it just me, or are FPS's really boring?

    If this has come up already recently, forgive and ignore this topic, I havn't been able to post in a while.
    I'm kind of sick of the barrage of First Person Shooters lately, video games these days really don't have "the stuff" old ones did. It's not just that there were "vintage" or whatever, there have been really good games for current systems, and even some FPS's that i enjoy, but the old games were just AWESOME. I mean look at Metal Storm for the NES; You're in a gunner robot, just shooting the crap out of other robots (who are obvioiusly evil and need to be destroyed). You have a number of abilities in this game. You can jump, shoot lasers (of varying types depending on your upgrade) and FLIP UPSIDE DOWN. How cool is that, i mean, you can just be like
    "hey guess what floor, I'm too good for you"
    and the floor is like
    "too bad, I've got gravity on my side"
    and you just smile and simply say
    "not anymore" and press the reverse gravity button.
    There are WAY too many plain bad games as of late, and i'm getting sick of it. Does anyone agree?

      Metal Storm is not a first person shooter. It's a platformer. Get your genres right.

      And there hasn't been any more FPS games coming out in recent years than in years previous. It's just that there are 3 really big hyped ones on the horizon (Halo 2, Doom 3, and Halflife 2).

      I agree that not enough originality is put into games anymore, but there is only so much that's possible to do. We're to the point in gaming now where everything is going to be based off something else, much like what happened to the movie industry around the 60s and 70s.

          I'm guessing you got a ROM for that game, since that's how I heard about it. It's fun in that when you flip gravity, most of your enemies do too and you jump in reverse (you jump down) which makes it disorienting and cool.

              Also, this belongs in the gaming forum.
              I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.

                          My best friend owns it for the NES. We played it back when we were 6, bro.

                          To this day, the only one of our whole entire clique that's ever beaten the final boss is my younger brother.

                              That's awesome, i would kill to find it on NES...actaully i could just go buy it on eBay, but i'm lazy. Heh, i think i might just go do that, what a rad game.

                                  Well, they're not original...all FPS games tend to stick to the same molds. WWII, Wild West, Modern Day, Terrorist/CounterTerrorist, and future space marine types. But I love 'em all the same. I don't give a damn if they're original, just as long as they're fun.

                                      You mean they follow after real wars that occured/occur on a daily basis? How dare they/

                                      Well, Sci-Fi stuff tends to be different, but that's because it's always fun to theorize what war will be like.

                                              it's funny because perfect dark had graphics equivalent to gamecube games (in my opinion).

                                              FPSs will never be repetitive as long as they have a decent, original story. Also, I think FPSs for world war II was extremely cool and innovative (until there were 50 on the market).

                                                  It gets incredibly boring. Killing people isn't that fun. If you want to kill things, try killing a variety of things on an RPG.

                                                          I agree with the first post totally. I'm also sick of games being as "real" as can be.. it's stupid.
