Are there any settings that would "taint" scores?

When posting in the brag boards, are there any settings for StepMania that folks would generally consider in poor etiquette, so to speak? Settings that would downplay achievements?

"Nice AAA, but of course you got it with that bullshit setting lol"?

I notice there's a fair bit of diversity in players' setups, so I was just curious if this is even a thing.

Not really sure. I know cMod is frowned upon if it's a song with many bpm changes in there to make the song harder (Like Groundhog). Other than that, I don't know. Jk I really don't know anything

Double setup (two different keys for the same input), song rate lower than 1.0 not expressed, judgement lower than 4 not expressed, life lower than 4 (or the equivalent of standard) not expressed, mines off on stepfiles with mines, turn left, turn right, no jumps/hands/quads, edited timing windows from the original, and any macro input software or bot.

There are some players who criticize using mirror or editing the graphics of mines to be smaller and thus less distracting, but both of these are accepted by the majority of the community including those who are critical.

This community doesn't recognize xmod as an essential part of the game. It's worth pointing out that there actually are others, albeit few, that do.

Just a couple of mods other than what ilikexd mentioned: Planted, holds off, jumps off, hands off, mines additive (because it changes arrows to mines making it easier in some cases), Insert mods like little wide big quick skippy echo stomp

all of these mods change the chart in some way. Freezes being off or planted can drastically change how easy or hard it is to score on a song.

On solo nobody cares if you use shuffle or w/e but on 4k everyone seems to flip shit even though it has a smaller amount of possible arrangements

            Released!

what about mines off, I've always always played without mines and not posted scores cause of it. I dont know what files do or dont have mines and I am happy with this.

Mines off invalidates a score being accepted as fully legitimate if the stepfile contains mines, or more liberally, if the stepfile contains mines that are on the screen the same time as notes.

Mines off isn't that big of a deal because most files don't have or have very few mines. A score on any dodgeball file wouldn't be considered legitimate with mines off for example

Other than that though go nutes. I play with boost, brake, hidden and dark because that's how I'm accustomed to playing and can't play without those mods on anymore

All seems to make sense, thanks for the input. The only mods I use are a c-mod and "distant."
