    Complextro Pack (Submissions Open)

So going off Kil's post talking about themed packs, I just realized that there's a particular themed pack I wanna try, so I made this. In addition, I wanted to see if some new ideas for organizing packs work.

Name subject to change but unlikely. I probably want to start with about 15 songs, but if things go well I might make it bigger. If music qualifications are too tight I might even make the pack smaller. Quality expected as usual. I don't care about technicality much as long as you don't make blatant errors and the chart is fun. No deadline set yet, I imagine it'll take a while to get this together.

    Rules
    - You can submit as many charts as you like of any difficulty, and any chart types are accepted as long as it's keyboard play. (so you can submit 6k material without a 4k chart, etc)
    - Submissions should be public. Post links in the thread with your chart download
    - Song must be approved. See below for details
    - Charts already released elsewhere are totally allowed

    Song Selection
Because I made this pack specifically for the musical theme, I determine which songs are acceptable to do. The reason why I want this to be done first, separate of chart submission, is because I don't want people making something and having it be rejected purely because the song doesn't fit the theme. This is put in place to avoid that.

As for the songs themselves, obviously I want complextro. But I'll be more lenient and say more generally, I'm looking for electronic music that has a wide range of textures and sounds, that feels rich and dynamic, usually done by switching between instruments/samples very quickly and often. A couple glitch hop tracks I know, for example, also tend to fall under what I'm talking about. Here are some examples of the genre/things I would accept, with timers on what part of the song is important to look at:
    Nhato - Magic (1:55)
    Madeon - Icarus (1:05)
Pistol Shrimp - Kaleidoscope (Lokid Remix) (1:02)
Virtual Riot - Energy Drink (1:26)

You're free to use any cut of a song as long as it works. In fact, some tracks I would even recommend doing so. Some tracks there will be gray areas, and maybe there are even tracks I would accept that most everyone else disagrees with. If such cases arise we'll discuss and figure it out when it happens. Because the cut of a track matters (you want to pick the interesting cut that's the reason for me accepting the track in the first place), if you like you can post/send the cut to me for review, but this is not mandatory. I think once I accept a track this part should be fairly intuitive, so it's unlikely anyone would pick a bad cut. But if in doubt, check with me.

    Judging
This time around I'm gonna try something different. Everyone is a judge. Submissions are public, so anyone can provide feedback to whatever they want. Constructive comments are constructive independent of the person providing them. I do get final say, however. (don't worry I don't bite) It doesn't mean you can't argue with me and try to make me change my mind though, so have at it if you like.
Do be warned that playing these charts ahead of time will probably not make the final release as exciting for yourself, so if you don't think you'll be doing anything constructive, I recommend not playing these charts ahead of time.

      Sorry, that song's rejected.

It's really far off. It's only got glitchy textures and not much else, whereas I'm looking for a wide range of sounds. It's not as palatable as more consonant melodic songs, so you don't really immerse yourself into it as well. All in all not very dynamic and "boring" (not the kind of "interesting" I'm looking for).

It sounds to me like it's electro but more glitchy and interesting. Almost like she but a little bit faster and more wild.

Also this sounds like it could make for some real cool xmod files.

              Re: Complextro Pack (Submissions Open)

this pack is probably going to fail seeing that complextro isn't a well-defined genre and anything that goes in this pack could also go into choof's dubstep pack

we've already seen OP reject a pretty good complextro song because it didn't coincide with his own personal opinion of what complextro is

how many people downloaded the first dubstep pack and are not chris samurai or aaron

I did only after choof mentioned the "very successful first dubstep minipack" in his dubstep minipack 2 thread.

bmah both of your tracks are good to go if you can pick good cuts. Some sections of the song are exactly what I'm looking for, while others fall flat a bit. If you like, I can review your cuts once you make them. I also forgot to mention something regarding these cuts, so I'll update first post.

Halogen I'm gonna have to reject yours. The fact that it has a rather complete vocal line means that even if there were lots of fun effects and a range of sounds to play with in the background they would be overshadowed, and there's not a lot of stuff going on. Not saying that it wouldn't be possible to make a song like that I would approve of, but it's really unlikely. The music I'm looking for should almost be switching back and forth between tons of vastly different instruments fairly quickly, as you can hear in a lot of my example tracks.

That's why I said I would judge each song individually. I made this pack because I want tighter music choice, as I'm not a fan with a high enough percentage of tracks in choof's pack. (Isn't that the point of making a themed pack?)

As for "my own definition of complextro", I'm not making a pack for what people have defined as the complextro genre. Rather, I'm making a pack for the songs of a certain kind that I like that is best described as "complextro". If you can come up with a better name that fits the songs I chose, please do suggest something.

Assuming your taste in music aligns more with what songs you chart, I'm not sure you would generally like any track that falls under what I would accept.

                            Dubstep (Skream, Rusko, etc)
Brostep (if you found the artist on ukfdubstep, it's brostep)
                            Drumstep (Noisia, xKore, etc)

                            Glitchstep (Opiuo, KOAN Sound, etc)
Complextro (srsly who even makes this shit anymore)
                            Neurofunk (Spor, uhhhhhhhh, etc).
the tracks that have been sent to dubstep 2 have all been dubstep, even though I've opened up the genres to include more interesting styles (glitch, complextro, neurofunk)

tighter music choice is alright but when it comes to a genre of music that's not as easily defined as dubstep, it becomes very subjective and I'd argue that people would rather step for a broader theme.

Well that's why I described objectively what traits I'm looking for in each track. Would you have a better name for it? Rapidly Switch Between All Kinds of Instruments Electronic Music Pack?

While I haven't looked into the other two tracks yet, Magic I wouldn't consider to be dubstep. That for me is like quintessential complextro, a perfect example of exactly what I'm looking for in my pack.
