    Call of Duty loser calls in SWAT team on player who beat him

    Long Island police dispatched helicopters, emergency vehicles and an army of cops to a home where someone called in a bloody rampage on Tuesday.

    They arrived with guns drawn and ready for war — only to find out the call to cops was an act of revenge by a gamer whom the teen who lives inside had just beaten in an online Call of Duty battle.
    You have to hear what the prankster said to authorities to send out the SWAT team.

                          These sorts of attacks date back to at least 2005, when a Japanese player of Lineage II was arrested for carrying out a series of virtual muggings on other characters and then selling the loot for real money, and sexual assault on player avatars was first documented in 1993 on LambdaMOO.

                          But enacting vengeance in meatspace against the dude on the other side of the line? This is a more recent development, and I wish I could find sources for the history of this stuff.
