Re: Team liquid annouces SSBM team
You really don't get the depth of this game do you? Whether or not it was intended to be a competitive fighting game, the fact is, is that it most definitely is. The only game I think requires more skill to be the best at in the world than melee, would probably be SC brood wars.
Anyway, the scene is seriously blowing the fuck up. Been playing with the Dallas crew pretty fiercely for the past 2 months. Silentwolf came down for a tournament about a month ago and pretty much took all our money lol. Pretty cool to see Ken getting back into the groove, and KDJ is probably my favorite smash player of all time.Comment

Re: Team liquid annouces SSBM team
I don't know why people still cling to Melee.
If you ABSOLUTELY hate Brawl so much, the community should coalesce behind one of the more Melee-like hacked versions of Brawl that fixes problems that Brawl introduced while retaining the benefits that come with Brawl.
And we'll be getting a new official Smash Bros. soon, and they've already explicitly said that they aim to bring Smash back "down" to be more Melee-like.
Why not play the N64 game instead? The community probably just wants to keep Pikachu fans down. That's it.

Re: Team liquid annouces SSBM team
When you say you never caught on do you mean you never understood why it's so essential for high level gameplay? It's being able to space your character forwards or backwards while still being able to face whatever direction your character is at any certain time.
For marth for instance, a forward dash then wavedash backward to forward smash is pretty much one of marth's deadliest forms of mind games when sweet spotted which pretty much happens naturally because of the spacing it provides. The mind games and spacing potential that wavedashing allows cannot be replicated by a dodge roll. It's simply too slow and too easy to predict for someone to follow up with a grab to combo etc. Wavedashing backward to forward dash to grab-upthrow to rest for jigglypuff on certain characters is amazingly rewarding (i'm a jigglypuff main). It's all about the mind games man.
The only way to really get into the scene and get down all the technicalities of the game is to find local competitive smashers. Your best bet is smashboards. Melee players notoriously get together and play all the time. We have get togethers of upwards to 20 people with 8 tv's at my friends house 4-5 times a week.
That's because you only semi-seriously played brawl. A game that rewards defensive play and caters to a much much much more casual gamer.Comment

Re: Team liquid annouces SSBM team
I played a plenty of Melee and even more N64. I probably logged less time on Brawl than on either of those.
You really just have no idea :\
My opposition to clinging to Melee is, as I mentioned before, that there are patches for Brawl that bring back the things people like about Melee while cutting the shit that no one likes. Brawl may not be unequivocally better than Melee, but patched Brawl definitely is. Even the awful wavedash bug in the physics engine that makes no sense at all can be added back to Brawl if you want it. On top of this, characters can be re-balanced as necessary, knocking down characters who might be seen as unfair and bringing up characters who no one would ever choose to play as due to them sucking.
ps korny, you're incredibly transparent. You didn't explicitly say "u suck because u r dirty casual", but that was CLEARLY the tone of your response to me.
