Random-Themed Slice of Life Anime with some Comedy

Does anyone know of any slice of life anime that seems normal at first, but actually has many quirks of either the character's personalities or the atmosphere that you would never expect? I would also like a little bit of comedy in the show, but without humor being the main focus of the anime show. Please don't recommend any popular anime unless it really fits the type of anime I'm describing. I would also like that the anime is from 2007 or earlier, if possible. Although I'm looking for quirky slice of life anime, please make sure that there isn't any fantasy, supernaturality, or science-fiction in the anime.

    Thank you in advance!

P.S. Some examples of what I'm looking for are Tsuyokiss - Cool×Sweet, Sketchbook ~Full Color's~, and Animal Yokochou (if you disregard the fantasy part of it at least).

Thank you very much; I'll be sure to give all of your suggestions a chance. ^.^

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (His and Her Circumstances) sounds exactly like what you're wanting. Two high school students, outwardly perfect people, compete with each other and fall in love while peeling away each other's facades and exposing inner turmoils.

There's a fair bit of comedy to it; certainly enough to break up the romance and introspection. The titles everywhere are pretty quirky, too. The amount of comedy in each episode varies since Hideaki Anno left the project in the second half of the series, and that also contributed to the series' ending where it did.

It truly is one of my favorite shows.

As a bonus, it aired from '98-'99.

I've only watched the first episodes of each of the first three anime you suggested so far. I appreciate your recommendations, but I find the first two anime really boring and generic. The third anime was kind of interesting and led me to watch two episodes, but it didn't catch my interest too much. I'll definitely give the rest of the anime you suggested a chance, though.

Thank you for the offer, but I've already watched more than five episodes of this anime, and it's based too much on romance for my taste. D:

I haven't watched Hidamari Sketch yet, but Working!! is really interesting so far! The character's personalities are intriguing, and I like how the setting is mostly the same (at least so far) so that the anime can focus on character development. ^.^

This is basically the definition of Nichijou.

            Other suggestions.
            -Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
            -SevantxService (if you like working)
-Seitokai Yakuindomo (if you like horrible sex jokes constantly)

How many is "more than 5" of Kare Kano? The show takes a dramatic change in pace/theme after episode 4

Also going to third Nichijou, as it is what immediately jumped into my head while reading your post

Nichijou is mostly based on comedy and randomness instead of slice of life, so I don't like watching it unless I'm in the mood to laugh. Thanks for the offer though.

Also, I think I watched about six to eight episodes of Kare Kano, and I got to the point where the main character and her rival were dating. I generally don't prefer romance in anime unless there's only a little and it doesn't affect the atmosphere of the anime.

Yeah, that would happen at the end of episode 4. The first episode where they are "dating" is episode 5, the school festival episode. There is a lot of romance in it but TBH I'm not sure you are going to find many slice-of-life anime that doesn't have any of the things you are trying to exclude.

I'm fine with a little of the themes I'm excluding as long as they aren't the main focus of the anime. ^.^

I'll give them a chance, and I really appreciate all your recommendations. I don't usually prefer fluffy and cute anime, so that's probably why I didn't like those three anime.
