Quite a few of us VidChat regulars have recently talked about having a meet-up - in Birmingham, Alabama of all places - this summer. July became the winner after June apparently interfered with others schedules. I believe mid-late July also became the apparent window.
My two cents:
If you're going to be staying at a hotel, I'd suggest staying at one in the area of Interstate 459 and U.S. Route 280 (southeast of downtown Birmingham). It is close proximity to shopping and bowling. Link.
I also suggest looking only at the hotels that have complimentary parking (if you plan to drive) and complimentary breakfast (if you plan to eat in the morning). Hotels can charge you up to $10 a day for parking and $15 for breakfast. It always pays to check before booking.
I've looked into some locations that could offer fun for those of us meeting each other for the first time: Brunswick Riverview Lanes and Treetop Family Adventure. Both locations are within 15 minutes or less of the locations stated above (Interstate 459 and U.S. Route 280). If you want to eat out a night, there are some restaurants in the area as well.
