I was originally considering putting this in bits and bytes but chit chat sees a lot more active posters so wala. Here's the story...
Back when Google bought YouTube months ago and making a gmail account with your name was required, I thought nothing of it and wanted to log back into my YT channel asap so I went and made an account anyway. Then shortly after this I went, "hey I'm going to be out of university soon so I should change the active email I'm using to something that doesn't have a university tied to it...why not my gmail account?" I linked my old uni account to my gmail and started using my gmail account for more professional things like registering on teaching boards and using it for my resume/cover letter and things of that nature.
So today I go to send an email to myself (it's how I transfer files) and as I type my gmail address, the nickname 'Dynam0' comes up with my YouTube channel profile pic and my gmail address (which is my full name btw) is beside this.
I obviously want to keep my rhythm gaming life separate from my professional career as much as possible because I don't want to run the risk of not getting a job from having an internet sub-life and so on. So I set out to try and find a way to unlink the two accounts (Gmail and YouTube). It turns out there isn't a way to do this unless you delete one of the accounts permanently, so it looks like I'll be deleting my YT account soon.
Oh and to make things more annoying, I also had Google+ enabled which was annoying as fuck because I wanted my email address to be used in a professional way and not to use as a social media hub!!
It's either that or I go through the process of making another Google account which might seem better. Another thing I was thinking of changing was my info on SM Wiki since when you google my name it's pretty well the first thing that comes up.
tl;dr
I'm annoyed that Google and YouTube merged because it's forced me to go out of my way to keep my professional life separate from my rhythm gaming life
Don't be shy to throw your opinions in the ring because I know there are some people who wouldn't care to have their employers know about their online aliases; I for one want to avoid this out of caution, that's all!
