Favorite/Least favorite video game endings?

Which games do you think had the best (or worst) endings and why?

EDIT: It should go without saying that this thread will be full of spoilers. If you really want, post the name of the game and then the explanation in spoiler tags if you want, but it isn't necessary.

Red Dead redemption wins both best and worst ending for me personally.

John was a great man, after playing such a beautifully crafted game and investing so many hours into him it's only natural to feel an emotional attachment to him. Turning his life around and finally restoring the peace he'd longer sought after, it was pretty tragic to play your last mission as John. That's the best, the worst is having to play as his son afterwards. I shouldn't need to say more.

FF7 is my fav largely due to the fact that I was 13 and it was my first real RPG that I had finished (and cuz safer sephiroth kicked my ass loads of times before I finally won). I sat in front of the tv watching the stars fly by to the prelude theme for probably 5 minutes before I realized nothing else was going to happen hahaha

Super Mario RPG has an awesome ending too and it has really grown on me

Least fav off the top of my head was prob Demon's Souls

because of how anti-climactic the end-game was. (The rest of the game on the other hand was incredible)

I might get hated, by my favorite is the very last Mass Effect game (after they updated and added some form of resolution).

I never had teared up in a game like that in a long while.

I can tell you that my least favourite game ending is the first Borderlands. I was so disappointed that a game with such awesome gameplay had such a shit ending.

Fallout 3 was somewhat disappointing too because

Col. Autumn isn't much of a final boss, especially after the huge battle with Liberty Prime and getting to the purifier. Fortunately the Broken Steel DLC provided a better ending than the main game.

I'm still partial to the ending of Wild ARMs 2, just because it was the first RPG I actually finished and it took me YEARS to do. Both Legend of Dragoon and FF7 blow it out of the water though. Both Portals have their charm to them as well. VVVVVV was really cute. Some others like PSX Spyro(s)/Crash(s) hold nostalgia value.

I've played too many games in which I like the endings. I always find Mario games to have nice endings. Especially Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story...

because they made a cake for Bowser for helping save the Mushroom Kingdom, and also for Chakron to be proud of him when he says he is never proud of anyone... especially for a sage to say that, it's pretty special. (Only AFTER everyone gets their best ranks of course... which I have gotten.)

Some I don't like are:

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - This is actually one of my top favorite games ever but...

the main reason I don't like the ending is because after the fact that Link SAVES TERMINA FROM IT'S IMPENDING DOOM, Tatl is just like "Go on! Get out of here! The rest of us have a carnival to go to!" Even after all they've been through, you would think she would have been somewhat nicer about it. I also thought it would have been nice to actually see the Carnival of Time...

Jim Power: The Lost Dimension in 3D - Most boring ending ever...

since all the ending is, is a screen that says, "Congratulations! Now Jim can finally return home!" YAY! GOOD FOR YOU! Seeing as there is no story in this game, we don't even know where his home is, or how he even got into the lost dimension in the first place... yawn. Especially considering how hard some levels are it's not very rewarding...

I'll think of more when I can...

My favourite ending of all time would be The Crooked Man on the second playthrough. Poor Duke ;_; it was the only game to have made me cry ;_;

Honorable Mentions for Best Ending: Ib (the ending where Gary & Ib remain in Gueretana's painting with Mary forever), Shadow of the Colossus, and Palette

Least Favourite ending of all time would have to be...Mass Effect 3. Anything you do, the world would still end ;_;. I wanted to save the world dammit.

Honorable mentions for Worst Ending: Final Fantasy XIII-2, Ao Oni, Ikari Warriors, and Ghosts n' Goblins (Engrish much huehue)

Adding Resident Evil 0 for one of least favorites...

One of my favorite Resident Evil games but...we never hear about Billy Coen again... I know he's in Umbrella Chronicles but that's more of a spin-off. It would have been nice to find out if he turns himself into the marines and serves his sentence, or if he stays in hiding, or if he goes on through life normally or what... heck, even a file mentioning him would have been nice. Yes, I know about the N64 Resident Evil 2 file.
