Well, for one thing this isn't Youtube, you can use links here so long as it doesn't break the rules, if you're trying to post a screenshot and it's not very large as well, you can use the [img] function to appear on your post.

Since I tried to paste the link and remove the spaces somehow didn't work for me, the suggestion I have right now is that did you install/run the game using AppLocale? Often for games like that it works (Touhou Mother) Also I think most of the time you'd need to install rpg maker 2k as well (with applocale as well)

I did run it with Applocale, and it showed me an error message in Japanese. I also tried running Applocale with RPG Maker 2000, and it showed me a different error message.

Using a more recent version of windows (assuming that's your OS and it's anything 7 or after) will more often than not require you to turn off UAC, mostly on the installation process. Sadly I'm not much of a help at this point, I'd suggest a guide or wait for another user to post a solution here. Have you tried "Run as Administrator"?
You can turn off UAC with Registry or Control Panel settings

Also, make sure you use RPG Maker 2k not 2k3..
When I tried playing Yume 2kki with 2k3.. it gave me font errors because it wouldn't properly read it.. so I lost like 5 effects that run, as I was unable to save the game rofl.


EDIT: Might be annoying for you to see this link (cause most ppl have when they DL yume 2kki) but it's a good reference if you haven't!

I tried your suggestions, and then it told me I needed RTPe.exe, so I download and installed the english RTP to the Yume 2kki folder, and it worked!

Just wondering, where did you find that english RTP to the Yume 2kki folder?

You are playing the english translation for Yume 2kki right?

Also, nevermind, the game isn't working for me yet. It now works fine when going to the main menu, but when I try pressing the "z" button for new game, the game crashes and gives me this unreadable message (even when I run RPG_RT.exe using AppLocale).



Please tell me if you know how to fix this problem; I'm anxious to start playing Yume 2kki soon!

The reason why you're seeing those ???s is because you haven't changed your unicode to the japanese through your regional and language settings

What I did was download the 0.99h version, take the english patch to rewrite over 0.99h files (even though it is 0.98f, some 0.99h files are still there).

I tried changing my non-unicode language to Japanese through Regional and Language settings. Now even the clock on the bottom-right hand corner of my laptop has Japanese characters for p.m., so I think I did it correctly.



Also, when I try to run start.exe, I still get the same Japanese message as before, and the game doesn't load. Here is the picture again for reference.

Hmm ok, here's what you do..

We're going to perform exactly what I did here.

First, uninstall yume 2kki, delete everything related to yume 2kki, like delete all your RPG_RT.exes, uninstall context menu etc, papplocale.


Now just get stuff only from this post here, the links here worked for me:

1. Redownload (NOT INSTALL) Papplocale: http://ntu.csie.org/~piaip/papploc.msi
2. Redownload (NOT INSTALL) Context Menu: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/attach...8&d=1208143928
3. Now install Papplocale.
4. Extract Context Menu, make sure you install it by double clicking Install.reg
THERE should be a warning message, press yes. After, there should be a confirmation message.
5. After installing Install.reg, download this: http://tkool.jp/rtp/2000rtp.exe
6. Double click the 2000rtp.exe. it will extract, not install.
7. Now find the contents of the extraction, and right click the newly extracted .exe with applocale
8. You should be able to install it, if not, then HALT and post here if you can't install it.
9. If you did, then download Yume 2kki 0.99h from HERE: http://yui.oopsup.com/yume2kkifileupNo4/
You can't do simultaneous DLs in this site here, so download it part by part.
JUST THESE TWO ONLY:
10. Extract it, reinstall Yume 2kki.
11. We don't need RPG_RT.exe because I got the ENG version to work without itso try the game with start.exe
12. If the game without english works, then redownload ENGLISH VERSION http://www.mediafire.com/?5k7e14k78w4670h
13. After, extract the english version in a separate folder. Now CUT/COPY all the contents from the English version (should be like 0.98f) to the 0.99h JAPANESE version.

The english version should overwrite some files, but you still have most things in the game.

Unfortunately, the link in step #5 does not work for me, and I get an error message saying it cannot be found. Will you please provide an alternate working RTP download? Thank you in advance!

Nevermind, I was able to find another working RTP download, and was able to install it. Hopefully the rest will work out as well.
