Overall numbers have dwindled a lot since the "golden age," but I think participation for each individual right now is pretty high.

there have always been separate communities with different interests, but now the sites' purposes are more mutually exclusive than ever. FFR houses both stepping crews for FFR (the game) and SM, with the two groups very closely intertwined, as both are dedicated to making spread-based keyboard charts. r21freak is devoted to making simfiles for use on hacked ITG machines.

there are some other communities, but from what I can tell, FFR and r21freak are by far the largest remaining groups that are involved with 4-key/4-panel rhythm games. I guess there's probably a DDR fan site here and there, but... bleh.

No he's actually completely right. People here stepauthor wise think you have nothing to say unless you have more than one chart in game. And don't say that I say that because people say things to me all the time, because let's ignore my existence for a minute and realize that this does happen. A lot. It's honestly really disgusting.

Subjective. Also I find the Osu community and game to be worse off than ffr.

Aside from the standard game (Which I honestly dislike the concept from the start so I'm just not gonna talk about it because it'd be major bias from me.) Learning the other game's modes (Teiko and Catch The Beat) is something that's incredibly difficult to do. And even then as you're doing it, it's off sync nonranked crap. Forgive me for wanting to be able to have a rank on it (as that's sort of the reason for playing a game with leader-boards no?) but I mean ranked easier charts for all game modes would make that game worlds better. Or even if they weren't ranked, can we get some on-sync fun stuff please? :/

But as it is, no thank you. The community also is a pretty, um, bad, from what I've seen. Which granted is not too much.

Also to add my opinion on the community here: A deal of the community is a bunch of easily offended cry babies. You know who you are.

Simcharts are more technical than fun now which makes this game really hard to actually enjoy. But you really should play a few of them to form your own opinion on that.

I don't care for the osu community myself either, I don't find it all too welcoming and being involved in the FFR community for awhile, I can say that the osu community is more elitist (like, "oh, you're not top 100? You have no opinion then...") Also, I feel the FFR community is more tight-knit than osu's, but I can't say too much since I haven't been ~too~ involved in osu's community.

I have to say that both FFR and OSU communities both have their own advantages and disadvantages.

If I had to choose a winner between the two, I would personally say osu.
