    No Limiter Test

    http://soundcloud.com/gerald-wiseman/no-limiter

    No Limiter = No Problem.

What do you guys think of this WIP so far? Totally jacked some protips from Milla on snares. Still working on my kick, though I'm liking where I'm at so far.

As far as synths go, nothing is permanent yet. Still toying with different sounds and will be for a while.

Comments and constructive criticism is much appreciated, fellas.

Yase. I would like to put a vocal sample there, haven't picked one out yet though. Any other thoughts on it other than the gap?

I don't know what you did with your kick (laptop speakers) but most good ones are boosted around 100hz. That one is a bit overpowering, probably the distortion. I can't tell much without bass but it sounds a bit empty to me (not much of a drop). Your wobble sound is pretty nice though and I REALLY like the little background riff you have. Definitely has potential, keep it up!

Edit: Put in headphones and it does sound better with bass. I think more hi-hats would be nice. I can barely hear the ones you have in there. Or you could use similar things like a shaker or something if you prefer that sound.

Thank you! Yeah, hardly a drop at all. The track seems very abrupt simply because I start with one pattern, shift it down the line, etc. Once I get close to a full song I start taking care of business with build ups / drops (White noise, sidechains, pads, whatever.)

One thing with the kick though, I've got a pretty wimpy kick that I tried to boost a lot but just ended up getting some odd distortion. I can try adding a bass boost to it at 100hz and pump it up a bit.

What you can't hear though on your laptop speakers is behind the kick after the "drop" there's a subbass kick pattern that I laid overtop of the kick just to give it some shake. I've got a problem with producing though where the only bass I have is on my headphones, but headphones aren't ideal for producing anyway. So I have to keep swapping back and forth. Kind of irritating. Lol.

Also, it helps a lot to have the attack on the sidechain effecting your bass synths really fast. Or just use your kick to activate the sidechain.

I don't suggest just bass boosting at 100hz, it gets bad. Just take the EQ of the kick and raise it a bit around 100hz until you get the sound you want. The biggest thing for me right now is that it sounds like it needs something extra. I'd put in hi-hats for sure. Hearing it after you add in your build-ups and whatnot will sound a lot better too.

Added panning shakers, added a temporary vocal sample for that 2 second gap, boosted the bass levels, did a bit of sidechaining with the wubs to the kicks, did a few more modifications as far as sounds go.

I like this one much more already.

That does sound quite a bit nicer! Maybe add reverb or an echo to your vocal sample and possibly a crash (or anything similar) on your drop. These are just random suggestions but it's sounding pretty good!
