how did you learn2xmod? was it through sheer experimentation, or did you ever gain substantial insight from a guide of some sort?Comment

Re: I do xmods. AMA.
Sheer experimentation. I first figured out negative BPM when I saw Monotune Respect from foonmix. I took a peek at the file itself and began to play with some things on my own, and that's pretty much how I've figured out everything to this day. Once I got a handle on how negative BPMs work, I ended up discovering negative stops, and everything else just kinda cascaded from there.
My most favorite to implement: Blinks. Only one of my released files has it (%10), but they're basically having a bunch of warps that make the notes appear for only a split second every 8th note or 16th note or so. I have a file in the upcoming Xmod pack that's going to have way more of those.
My least favorite to implement: Reverse scrolling. It looks amazing, but it's a lot of mindless copying and pasting, ad infinitum. It's even worse if you're making individual columns reverse scroll, because now you can't simply paste. You're manually moving the notes after pasting each step.
My most favorite to see: Reverse scrolling, actually. It's great when people use it. Kommi used it in one of the files for the Xmod pack, and it made me want to do rather naughty things to myself.
My least favorite to see: Unreadable speedups. It forces you to use a lower speed, making the slower parts unreadable. No matter what, some part will be unreadable, and that's just very poor design.
You're sitting in a subforum for this very thing. Go for it.Comment
