For people who want details, I came down with an illness on Thursday morning, just a regular cold. The sore throat was there, the cough was there, a mild fever, but I figured some strepsils capsules and I'll be able to go to work, so I went to work and survived the whole work shift without much consequence.
The problem was what I made myself for lunch at my office - I made a few things, a honeydew salad, some chocolate cookies, a banana chocolate muffin, a beef patty and a baloney-lettuce-cheese bagel sandwich. I ate the Bagel sandwich around 3:30pm EST (I had made everything around 7:30am) and unfortunately the bagel sandwich had gone bad since then, but I ate it without realising. As I was going to sleep still sick (feeling worse throughout the day), I got struck with food poisoning around 11:30 - it does take about 8 hours for it to settle in. From there, I was horrible from Friday to Saturday, gradually getting better on Sunday and Monday. I spent Friday at the hospital (wait times took the majority of it), and the rest of the time at my brother's in a small town 45 minutes away from Toronto in an air conditioned house that isn't constantly above 30 degrees celcius (90 fahrenheit+). The doctor there basically said that I had some sort of bacterial gastrointestinal virus - food poisoning essentially, and since it only happened about 24 hours prior to when I was at the hospital, the best course of action was to just let it take its course, which it did. Unfortunately for me that meant I couldn't keep a hold of the astronomy thread while there, so I was forced to temporarily postpone the thread. As for the tournament, well that was a non-issue at that point. I assumed I was eliminated and when I came home last night I checked and was not surprised. No doubt in my mind that I would be in the top 16 if I had the last couple days but it is what it is, someone else gets a chance to crack the top 8
Luckily food poisoning doesn't last very long, and all effects of it have since left my system. I have a cough still but that's nothing. Life is normal again and I can ## ever after.
tl;dr version: I got sick, then I got food poisoning on top of being sick. Now i'm better.
