As an aside, if you're just after the meme, there's plenty of easier options. Just from experience, you'll get burned out with game dev if you're not actually trying to make it good. (Memes and quality aren't mutually exclusive of course.)

Setting personal goals and trying to make the best product you can, even if it is ultimately a meme, is a good way to actually stay motivated. Hell, all of my most ambitious memes, even FFR threads, are like that because I knew I'd get bored if I didn't strive to break my limits and maximally entertain the audience.

By all means go for it, this kind of thing is a great creative outlet! You just need to find ways to stay motivated.

Thanks for the input so far. I have most experience with python compared to other languages (cuz I'm a huge math nerd lol and CS at my university focuses on python anyways), so renpy sounds pretty good. I've checked it out a bit and it's pretty easy from what I've read so far.

I have decent enough art skills to where I could maybe draw the characters and stuff, but I'm gonna wait till later till I worry about that. Similarly, I'll probably worry about the music later as well.

I have played a fair number of visual novels (Katawa Shoujo, Koiken Otome, Wanko to Kurasou, Rewrite (Best VN. Fight me.), EoSDFBP, etc.), so I am familiar with the mecahnics, which is why I got hyped for this idea.

Not gonna lie, renpy is making this project look waaay more doable than I initially thought, and the feedback helps (ty DaBackPack & Dingles). I might put work on brainstorming stuff on a google doc or something so all you guys can add/edit stuff.

On another note, the most helpful thing right now would probably be just input on what you guys want to see in the game and spicy fiffer memes for inspiration (@h19: it wasn't awkward — gimme moreeee).

@daBackPack although this is pretty much a meme, I've been genuinely interested in making a VN for quite a while (as I've been reading VNs since middle school), so this is honestly a good way to take a fun crack at it.

Awesome! A fun idea is sometimes all it takes to get the pen moving. It's definitely doable solo if you know where to look for assets and advice. Lemmasoft Forums are a great place to ask for advice and it's still really active. You can also advertise your game there or show off WiPs.

Okay if we are being for real, I have a legitimate design suggestion:

One of the things anthropomorphized waifu gachashit series do (Kancolle, Girls' Frontline, etc.) is try to bake as many elements of the source material into the waifu as possible. For simfiles, I unironically think the idea of NPS graphs/difficulty curve as the person's profile actually makes a lot of sense. For example, Husigi or do i smile? NPS graphs suggest a really wide feature at the waist, like a widely flared short petticoat:



A file famous for white arrows = a pale person.

Food for thought. It would be fun to see someone with actual artistic skills draw personified FFR simfiles along these lines!
