Re: [OPEN] FFR Simfle Judge Applications

Alright ... Yeah, I know I should have been able to get the test files ready so I could have sent them out when I said I would. And then I should have posted right then when they weren't ready so y'all wouldn't be left in the dark. Would have given false hope seeing me post in the thread just saying I wasn't ready yet, and that stopped me from posting, which was dumb ... And then it shouldn't have taken me this much longer to come up with what I have. Thank you to the judges who contributed files that would work for this.

I'm really sorry about how slow I've been with this. I started it prematurely because I just couldn't wait any longer to get something moving. (And then of course I ended up stalling it further, ack.)

The files I'll be sending out are a good start, at least. If we feel like we need more information to make decisions, well, we'll have a better idea of what kinds of test files we need to make. So the process might not end with this batch of test files. I'll post updates in case that happens and more stuff is sent out.

      Test Filessssssssssss

It's always good to playtest a file first so you can get a feel for it. You want to be able to understand what the stepper was going for and judge based on that. Of course, you can still give suggestions on how you might change something up as if you were stepping it, but you want to grade based on the clarity and consistency of the stepper's vision for their file. Of course, sometimes, you might feel that someone's style just ignores so much of the music that it just doesn't do the music justice. That's when it's more okay to take off points for steps that are consistent.

Patterning, pitch relevancy, layering, climax theory ... being polite. All important stuff.

Stuff stuff stuff. Lots of stuff. But you know that much already.

I'll be sending the test files in PMs shortly. If we don't feel like we have enough new recruits from this first wave, I may send some more out. Or I might ask someone to send in another application when they've gotten more experience stepping and reviewing. We'll see.

      Specific directions:
      >> The Test File zip contains a text file and a folder of four simfiles. Rename the text file to replace "username" with your username, and fill in the text file with your notes and rating in the appropriate places.
      >> When finished, attach the text file to an e-mail and send that in, either as a reply to your latest email or as "{username} Judge App Part B"
      >> Don't spend more time than you would if you were judging for the batch. Four files should be able to be judged in one day, maybe two. We want to see what kinds of reviews you would be writing while on the team.

Sorry again about how long this has been taking. Gotta stop beating myself up though so I can just get up and get stuff done! Wooo! Stuff!

Re: [OPEN] FFR Simfle Judge Applications

I just mentioned it in the Queue/Batch thread, but it's about judge applications, so that information needs to be here, too:

Dossar has been really stressed and busy, so he won't have time to look at applications until after the 15th. So over the next couple weeks, the other judges can leave comments on the applications and stuff, but we need the game managers to make final decisions.

I'm looking at everything though, and the other judges can contribute opinions when they can, so we should be seeing some decisions in about two weeks. I know that's longer than some people want to wait, but, rarf, yeah. Sorry we can't get back to you sooner.

I'll be editing the Part B instructions into the OP and maybe adding a few more directions. Four notes came in, and all three different timing methods were used: seconds, beats, and measures. Seconds are preferred for the best consistency between SM and ddream (as long as your SM global offset is 0 when you judge, so your notes aren't offset from all the others.)

Those who have already submitted don't need to resubmit their notes in seconds, but they may if they like. But, for the batch, we won't accept notes in measures, because it's inconsistent even between different versions of SM (starting at 1 versus 0). Sorry that it skipped my mind earlier to include in the instructions.

just to be clear though, notes in seconds can also be inconsistent if either the judge or stepper is using a global offset in stepmania
technically using beats is simpler because you'll only have to subtract/add 1 from/to the notes rather than like 0.03

Re: [OPEN] FFR Simfle Judge Applications

Silvuh just returned back from a weekend trip and I've reviewed all of the first part of judge applications. He and I are looking at what has been submitted for reviews on test files -- more details can come tonight when he gets on again.

We're still waiting for notes from a judge applicant; that user will be PM'd shortly. Edit: I know about his situation so we'll be looking at the other applicants for now.

Re: [OPEN] FFR Simfle Judge Applications

Yeah, I meant to get through everything before Dossar would be available again and before I had to leave for the weekend, which is why I didn't mention that I'd be gone. But then I got way too distracted thinking about the trip and never got around to finishing going through the applications. I'm really sorry again for how unfocused I've been and continuing to delay this process.

Some other judges have written comments about some of the applications, so that's helpful, too. We'll definitely have more news sooner than later with both of us being active now.

Silvuh and I have finalized which judge applications are accepted, although I need to wait for him to come back on Sunday (he'll be gone for the rest of this week). On Sunday we're planning to discuss the next step for the batch after getting the new judges on the team. This week was bad timing for both of us.
