Weapon has a little too much 1-hand anchor stuff for me to enjoy it on FFR, but I can't deny it's a well-made file. Just not my kind of thing.

      UC is really cool.

          Ignore my previous post.

But the d2 song is sick. Love it.

Re: Official Tournament Round 3 Song Discussion

            So my impressions!

            Pembroke Welsh Corgi:
Cute name, cute song. The speedup in the middle of the song was a pretty clever way of trying to illustrate a higher energy in a file that's deliberately understepped. Music sounds like it'd fit perfectly within the Pop'n Music series. And again, this song has the potential to be a harder file as well (especially that middle section of the song).

            ice valley "beyond the searoad":
This is my first collab with Silvuh, and if I recall, I think the first collab Silvuh ever made on FFR. This file is actually toned down very slightly from the original chart. I would've preferred the ending to be a bit harder, and looking at the current performances of D2 players, I don't think they would've had a problem either! Please enjoy this frosty cold song. If we made this file a few months earlier, I would've placed it in the 12 Days of FFRmas event. It just fits.

            Jazzman - Super Mario Bros:
Funky and jazzy! I really liked the steps here. The intro Mario jingle that everyone is familiar with is very satisfying to hit because those parts have been stepped as hands. BAM! Hit it smack on like that. Unlike some other divisions this round, this song is certainly a step up from D3's previous song.

            Slam the Door (Rogue Remix):
I like this song. The steps were well-done as well and once the jacks arrive halfway through, the song suddenly becomes quite satisfying to hit. I think it just has a good beat. Is the file a noticeable step up from the previous round? No, not really. Nice work, CBR.

            Undiscovered Colors:
The file many people have been waiting for. I even heard Wayward Vagabond wants to make yet another version of this. I personally think this song is better off being listened to rather than being played, but despite that, I think it has been stepped in the best way possible. It flows relatively well, and I don't think it's as jarring as AJ might have thought. I think it's sorta like The Bird's Poisoned Bathwater's little sister...blippy and bursty but a lot more playable. Opinion: however well UC is stepped, I think it's overrated by many others. Best file that can be made for this song? Quite possibly so. Best file of the year already, or even best file so far this tournament? I disagree entirely.

            Weapon:
Stepmania players may be familiar with this one. This is a long song, but it has some pretty catchy melodies that make up for its length. The file is jacky all around, and the middle part is probably the hairiest section. The file is really well-stepped though. In fact, I think I could say the same for pretty much every file this round. I'm waiting for Kommisar to step something other than chiptune and 8bit music, ever since the days of songs like "Dimensions of a Square".

This is seriously the third Silvuh song out of three for D1 and D2? Don't get me wrong, Silvuh files are (usually) awesome, but some variety would be nice!

Haha, D1 and D2 tends to see a lot of Silvuh because he's the most proficient at creating lower level files. He's also the only one that tends to make them.

We should be giving him thanks to making all of those easier charts because the D1/D2 players would have nothing to play.

EDIT: Keyboard double-triggered on me during a ~8:1 A:P run of Weapon, faekjhrsakjfhas. Man... that accuracy, haha.

He's about the only one who steps files in that range. I had nothing else to put in the early d1/d2. I actually had to ask for more files because we were so short on easy ones.

Well usually few simfilers seem to want to step easier files. Silvuh is one of those few who voluntarily step easier files. Maybe it'd inspire some new steppers to fill in the gap! If no one's going to step easier files, how about you?

Oh, and this is a collab, so at least it's not just Silvuh by himself!

Oh btw guys I'd really like to hear any opinions on file ratings with D1/D2 because it was a difficult area to rate it felt. A lot of the lower end files seem out of place and it made it hard to compare files for ratings. Plus being that those of us rating the files are D5 and D7 players it's a little harder for us I think to be accurate on that end.

Re: Official Tournament Round 3 Song Discussion

Holy crap this round I enjoyed every single one of the divisions songs and charts haha. Amazing round release :3
You'll probably hear me say a lot of the same thing for each chart lol.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi: Really fun song and a fun chart for being D1. Really liked it Silvuh ^^

ice valley "beyond the searoad": Nice song and fun chart for being decently easy to me. Was almost tricked near the end and got ahead of myself when there was a pause and then a 16th jump and another pause or whatever. Definetly would like to see another Silvuh + bmah file =P

Jazzman - Super Mario Bros: I remember testing this chart out for Felix before he submitted it to FFR and it was really fun. Glad to see it in-game now =D. Song is great and the chart he made for it goes very well too it. Lots of fun stuff to hit. Definetly a step up in difficulty for D3. That ending is pretty tricky and easy to mess up I'd think. Goodluck D3!

Slam the Door (Rogue Remix): Love the song and the chart is nice too. The jacks felt really good to hit and the was fun as well. Not too much of a raise in difficulty for D4 but rather just a new skillset to test =/

Undiscovered Colors: Love the song and really love the chart as well! Enjoyed this chart the most out of the rest but that doesn't mean the other charts weren't enjoyable. Took me 12 tries to AAA the song. I can see this being lowered to atleast a 68. The chart flows very well to me =3

Weapon: Really cool song and stepped very well. This chart has no mercy though haha. Lots of tough patterns dealing with jumpgluts and possible one handed patterns. The 24ths flowed very well and were my favorite things to hit in the chart. I feel like this chart is harder than the round 3 chart last tourney aka Shotgun Surgery and that 78 is too low for it x.x

I'd give difficulty opinions for the easier files but it's really hard for me to compare being in a high division so sorry Kayla v.v

Best SDG = Fushigi Usagi Milk Tei 8-0-0-3 (101)
                        Best Score = do i smile? 3-0-0-3 (100)

I wanted to address this. First off, thanks so much for the kind review, haha. Yeah, I had a feeling that a lot of people were going to like this version over nois-or-e's, for obvious reasons, but it was a really nice sight to see it get such high ratings in the batch it was sent to. As far as the bolded area: best file for the song? Subjectively not -- there probably still are a lot of people that enjoyed Jae's hArDpAiN file; for all we know, stepartists used to charting this genre of songs might be able to come up with something better. It most certainly is a bad idea to call this file of 2013, seeing as how it's only February, haha.

Also, D4's song isn't a significant step up to be a kick in the face, but it is noticeable compared to last round. The cutoff should be a little bit looser because of the extreme amount of jack/jumpstream consistency.

I'd say the rating on D2's song is spot on. It's right there on the upper end of an easy AAA for me, and 32-33 is right where I begin to have difficulties AAAing. It also seems very similar in "weight" to other similar files (short jumpstreamy bursts) at the same difficulty.

D1's song is a bit harder for me to say for sure, but it seems accurate as well.

All the songs this round seem to be very well done. Great songs and the stepfiles all look fun too, although I haven't played D4-D6 yet.
