Re: Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for Diablo III
The whole thing is obvious sarcasm. They wouldn't release the game if they weren't satisfied with it.
The same can't be said for delayed bukkake-fests like DNF, Battlecruiser 3000AD, Quake4, Daikatana, Haze, etc.Comment

It's PR. It doesn't matter what he says. People will talk about the game more than they already were before. He could be trolling. Or he could just not give ****s and say what he actually feels, which is that he thinks it's bull**** that his success will inevitably be compared to the success of D2.Back to "Back to Earth"

Re: Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for Diablo III
In all honesty, Haze wasn't that bad of a game. Yeah, sure, the campaign felt like the French were purposely making fun of the Americans, and the graphics were typical (except for one explosion near the end of the game, it was amazing), and they squandered what had the potential to be a great idea for a game, but for the five dollars I spent, it was well worth the experience. And I hear the online was SUPER competitive.
On topic: You really expect Diablo 3 to be that great when Blizzard spent a lot of that time working on Starcraft 2 which turned out to be everything people were expecting and more? Cut Blizzard some slack, in this time they've been producing other products as well.
Also, honesty isn't the best policy for a PR.

When the game isn't fun for you anymore, take a break. It's not a job, nobody here is professional and getting paid to play and force themselves to constantly improve... it's a game.

Re: Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for Diablo III
The quote is a blatant joke. If Blizz were satisfied with releasing a ho-hum sequel, Diablo III would have been released in 2003.
Kind of a funny joke, but also kind of just disrespectful toward customers. :/So just like, lower those expectations, but still definitely buy the game please, and everything will be just fine. K?
Complete ditto.Comment

idk, I keep reading that bit and I keep coming away with "you should buy our game. we don't care about living up to your expectations because we know what's best."
I still agree with you; I like Blizzard far more than most big-name developers and publishers.Comment

Re: Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for Diablo III
Nowhere do they say "Buy our game" during this statement rather than "It's not consistent with out usual standard of quality we apply to our games, so unless you'd be happy with something worse than what we usually make DO NOT buy this game. Also where do they show any signs of not caring about living up to expectations? Would you prefer they release the game that may be crappy and tell everybody it's amazing?Comment

Re: Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for Diablo III
I knew from the start to not have my hopes up. Blizzard makes good games, but they're spending more time working on their new mmo. Diablo 2 was amazing, but d3 can't live up to the hype. It's been 11-12 years of built up hype, I'll still get the game and enjoy it, but I'm not gonna expect to be one of the greatest games of all time.

Re: Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for Diablo III
Honestly, I expect the Diablo III release to go very similar to how the Starcraft II release went.
You'll have a ton of Super-Mega-OMG-DIABLO!!!!111 fans buy the game. They'll realize there's tiny differences from D2.
Half will complain the changes made things worse, that they removed a charachter class they loved etc etc. Ultimately these people will be unable to re-identify with D3, because they've been playing D2 for 13 years and they really don't want blizzard to change anything. New storyline, Better graphics, less lag and they'd be happy.
Essentially, they just want a remastered D2, and in the end they'll probably just stick with playing D2. Occasionally they'll drop by and rant about how much better D2 was and how Activision is killing Blizzard.
The other half will give the game a chance, probably enjoy it and adapt to the changes.
Then you'll get new customers who haven't played D2, and will enjoy it because they're not trying to compare it to anything.
Blizzard just wants the hype to drop a bit because even the best made game might not have as long of a game life in this day and age. SC:BW and D2 were out for 10+ years with only minor patch updates. I don't really expect any game to get that lifespan now.Last edited by DarkManticoreX2; 03-6-2012, 09:57 AM.AAA's = 800
