Dang, and you didn't get a video? Up to now, I thought Mike Hughey was the only one to do it so far (though there probably are others who have).

Trust me, it's a lot easier and less crazy. The shape will automatically solve itself when you get the colors.

You memorize the cube layout before you don the blindfold. You take off the blindfold when you believe you have correctly solved the cube. If it isn't solved correctly after taking off the blindfold, you get a DNF (Did Not Finish).

I memorize the layout of the female anatomy before I don my blindfold. Would this be a similar technique with the Rubik's cube? Sometimes I wonder if I ever get a DNF. (Did Not Finish)

I think I saw a video of Mike Hughey doing a 7x7 BLD, actually. He just filmed the execution part and sped it up a bit, so it was actually watchable.

How long did your solve take, by the way?

About an hour and a half, really -- not as fast as what he did.

Only about 20 minutes slower. Plus, he only taped the execution, so that would shorten the video. But whatever, what's done is done. I would've liked to see that though.

This winter break, I may get back into blindfold cubing. I don't expect to be the fastest at it anymore, though. A lot of the newer guys are just insanely fast with their freestyle commutator approach. I just simply can't find a good memory method to describe what I would need to do in order to match that.

For now, I'm perfectly content with my CO/CP/EO/EP approach (it basically solves orientation separate from permutation, whereas the freestyle guys solve entire pieces at once... that is, both permutation and orientation simultaneously). It's still decently fast, and I've been able to get sub-1 minute times with it. Even a sub 1:30 time, in my opinion, is plenty fast enough for it to be enjoyable, and so it's my goal to be able to sub 1:30 again at some point.

I might do some blindsolves in the video chat at some point in the future, if anyone's interested in watching.
