Academia's great right now. I was at an expensive private school a while back which was filled with workhorse students. I couldn't afford it though, so now I'm at a less difficult college, which I enjoy a lot because I can read more in my spare time. This is great for me, because most law schools don't give a **** where your GPA is from.
And yeah, I understand the need for a social binge. That was... my entire sophomore year, lol. (Most of my junior year, too, now that I think about it.) I was even in theater for a while simply because I hung out with people from that group a lot. At this point I'm burnt out on parties and just try to keep within a moderately-sized circle of friends. If your social binge is at home though you seem to be doing it in a pretty constructive way, which is at least better than the "know everyone ever" approach I had.
