Playtest Impression, 0.9x Rate – Needs a fair bit of polish.
**18.740, 18.843 - these don’t exist – this jumptrill should be shorter
**19.930-20.550 - This is a pretty rough transition. I’d suggest removing the jumps and going for more rolly patterns or similar nerf
21.068 - snare jump?
24.274 - (subjective, can ignore) suggest moving this minijack to 1 or 2 for better PR feel/reduce right hand stress
28.516 - missing, compare 31.826
35.912/.964 - don’t hear anything for this
36.068 - missing a somewhat distinct guitar grace after this note
38.861 - suggest move to 4 for consistency
51.999 - (somewhat subjective) Don’t really hear anything to justify these 32nds
1:20.550 - 1:20.757 - not a huge fan of this transition, especially given how I’m going to require the 2:07.826 judge note nerf. Suggest tweaking the pattern here for consistency
**1:20.757-1:25.723 - This is one hell of an anchor, not overly well justified by the music. Need to split this up. I would suggest changing the anchor on chord changes at 1:22.412, 1:24.068, (probably)1:25.309
**1:27.378 - 1:28.205 - this is another particularly rough transition. Subjectively, I think all the 32nds before 1:27.999 can be removed, but it needs smoother patterning here either way.
1:48.481 - don’t hear 32nds here
2:00.119 - don’t hear this 32nd
**2:07.826-2:08.550 - You’re going to have to nerf this transition. I’d recommend putting the jumps on one hand to fit with the motif you’ve been using for many 32nds in the rest of the file (More like 40.619). Anything that removes the OHTs here.
2:08.757- ~2:10.619 - Personally think you’re better off just putting everything here as 24ths. As is, it feels super messy so I highly recommend reducing this somewhat. I wouldn’t bother putting a note on anything smaller than a 32nd gap here.
2:20.757 - another pretty janky transition imo, this one isn’t quite as bad as some others, even just reducing the hand might be enough
So I brought up this file in judge chat for some second opinions, and it generated some interesting conversation.
-There’s broad agreement that the jumptrills are overall fine to include.
-The file is way too spiky overall. Much of it plays like a file in the (FFR scale) high 60s but has spikes that would normally be seen in files in the mid 80s-low 90s.
-Somewhat more specifically, the file’s spikes are more noticeable because the rest of the file outside those spikes is comparatively very underlayered. Addressing this would require a fairly extensive overhaul to the file’s structure.
-Also noted was that some of the guitar grace notes in this file feel slightly off – either too quick or too slow for the relevant sound. Some of the graces would be better off just being jumps. This is a pretty subjective note but can add a nice bit of flavour if you decide to tweak these a bit more.
-Also noted was that the file’s transitions are broadly pretty rough. This is basically the whole spiky nature of this file – I’ve **’d most of these. It's the biggest thing holding this file back.
Recommend making some pretty thorough fixes to this one. I enjoyed this file, but it has some pretty glaring issues that need to be addressed.
This can definitely get there, and I think it’s pretty close. But there’s too many fixes needed here to justify an FR rating.
