The one thing this has me hopeful for is the possible inclusion of Sonic into SSB after all.

Weird how they finally come together in a game having to do with the Olympics.

We'll just have to wait and see, I guess...

If this happens, I will forever regret selling my Wii.

Does give you hope though!

This is awsome. Now they will have two of the great video game characters that are world renown going against each other in a video game. Exept they had "Super Smash Bros. Melee" which is like the best clash of video game characters EVER!!!

Squeek, I am not believing this until April Fools Day passes. I was wary of NiGHTS, and that turned out to be legit. But this could very well be an elaborate hoax, and it's conveniently placed right before a major "hoaxing" holiday. I find it to be too much of a coincidence to be true right now.

i heard its coming out around christmas, so we're gonna have to wait. And i would be disappointed if it were a hoax since this game has to be a huge clash of epic proportions... i think.

TOKYO (March 28, 2007) - SEGAŽ Corporation and Nintendo Co. Ltd. today made a historical announcement that two of the biggest icons in the entertainment industry, Mario™ and Sonic™, are joining forces to star in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Developed for the Wii™ video game system and the Nintendo DS™ system, this momentous agreement marks the first time these two renowned stars have appeared together in a game.

Published by SEGA across Europe and North America, and published by Nintendo in the Japanese market, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will be available for Holiday 2007 and is licensed through a worldwide partnership with International Sports Multimedia (ISM), the exclusive interactive entertainment software licensee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, players will compete in events that take place in environments based on the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Using a supporting cast of characters from the amazing worlds of both Mario and Sonic, gamers will be able to compete as or against a range of lovable personalities including Mario, Sonic, Luigi™, Knuckles™, YoshiŽ, Tails™ and more. Innovative usage of the Wii and DS control systems to maneuver a favorite character will allow players to race the likes of Mario and Sonic down the 100m track, engage in exhilarating rallies in table tennis and churn water in a swimming heat, all while competing for the much sought after gold medal.

"We are thrilled to partner with Nintendo and ISM on this groundbreaking title," said Hisao Oguchi, President and Chief Operating Officer, SEGA Corporation. "For the first time, two of the world's greatest games' characters come together to compete in the world's greatest sporting event and we couldn't be more excited."

"Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games," says Shigeru Miyamoto, Senior Managing Director and General Manager, Entertainment Analysis and Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd.. "In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now that they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we may finally learn who is actually faster, Mario or Sonic?"

"The Olympic Games represent the true spirit of competition and passion," said Raymond Goldsmith, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ISM. "Bringing together intensely competitive and fun characters like Mario and Sonic in an Olympic setting helps showcase the sports of the Olympic Games in a new and compelling way for all generations."

Thanks, Squeek, I already read that. I'm still not going to believe it until the date passes. Professional hoaxes are the best hoaxes.

Don't April Fool's Jokes usually happen in publications?

I highly doubt a company (two, actually) would release false information like this. Not only that, but April Fool's news usually happens on... April Fool's Day...

I'm pretty sure something that sponsers the olympics is suddenly going to go oh lol joke. I think that would be pretty insultive to the whole idea of sponsering and such. Don't be so paranoid. Alot of april fools day jokes by games companies and magazines and such tend to have a obvious statement hidden when it's a joke.

Hey, I'm not saying this isn't true. In fact, I'm leaning towards it actually being genuine. But I'm not going to accept it and start imagining how "awesome" it's going to be until I can be sure it's real. This time of year, any game announcement, and I just say, "Oh."

In general, I said "oh".

I mean, sure, it's Mario and Sonic, but it's the Olympics. Interest in the Olympics has been waning for years. I haven't even watched them since before the new millennium.

They might make it good, or they might make it suck like most of the Olympics games I've seen to date. If they include every sport, it might just work. If they only include the major sports, it'll be a waste of money.

Either way, I'm not very interested in it right now. Brawl is leagues ahead of this.

What the hell. Mario and Sonic in a RACE. Who's the retarded guy behind that idea. Thinking of the Olympic games now Sonic would win about 80% of them. I know this isn't a Mario vs Sonic thread but its fcuking retarded.
