Hey guys!
I wanted to start a thread where we could post specific patches we've made for plugin instruments. For many electronic and digital musicians, it's always a good idea to build your own unique patches rather than using presets so you can create a unique and interesting sound that suits your style of music writing. For myself, it's always interesting and extremely useful to check out other people's patches so I can get inspired or understand how other artists build their own sounds. I'll post a few sounds and I hope as more people contribute, we can build a huge library here in the Jungle Gym and provide discussion about specific patches, or how to emulate certain sounds. I'll use this post as the master thread and put the links here for easy access. Provide the name of the synth and a tiny description for each patch you upload. I'll start: KgZ: Reason- Thor Haunting Dreams- Quirky Pad sound with pitch bend aftertouch http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...%20Dreams.thor PowerupChor- Video game SFX, played generally in high range http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...werupChor.thor Reason- Combinator Bomberman Hero- Classic video game lead, square/sine http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...man%20Hero.cmb Analog Bass- Warm saw bass, emulates analog tape clarity http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...log%20Bass.cmb Native Instruments- Massive Landscape 1 and 2- Cinematic Atmospheric Pads http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...scape%201.nmsv http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...scape%202.nmsv Last edited by KgZ; 07-7-2012 at 05:37 PM.. |

Can we make it so only registered users can see the links? I've seen other forums do that.
Also, I think people should be able to request patches if someone else wants to take a shot at a sound. -shrugs-

too late
Most of the time as lurker suggests I select a preset, tweak some parameters on the plugin such as internal arp, reverb, and obviously fix it's position in the mix; then if necessary I post-filter it with distortion / wet/dry etc. I respect people who have the ability to shape their own sounds (sound designers) but being a musician it seems tedious for me when you can just alter presets to sound as amazing and still retain "your sound". I guess there some kind of purist debate here, but I'd rather not be part of it -- either approach is fine.

No no no don't get me wrong, if you're a composer then by all means if you have the right sound then use it.
However, someone had to conceive and build that sound in the first place. There's an art to synthesis, and having the right sound and using it in the proper context can make or break a song. And for people like myself, sound design is part of the profession. At the very least, you're more than welcome to use any sounds I post here. And Choofers, absolutely Last edited by KgZ; 07-6-2012 at 01:16 AM.. |

Yo, KgZ recommend me some Studio Monitors for my budget (college student lyfe).
I think I really need / want some to bring my production up to a more solid level.

M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio pair monitors- they're roughly around the $200 range for both speakers and relatively small so they won't be too much of a hassle either.
The for the price, the quality of the speaker is pretty good. Depending on your preferences, the BX5 on the brighter side compared to most "high quality" speakers. |

Finally, is there a certain port / plug / connector I need for the studio speakers or will they work over USB / Audio jack. I am a complete newbie working with audio hardware and I hope these will come with the necessary hookup and just "plug and play" with my Desktop computer. (which i fear they wont) I apologize for derailing this thread from its original intent but professional help on matters like this is absolutely irreplaceable and I thank you for helping me out.

I'm not quite sure of the extra outputs, but the BX5 at the very least and all legitimate studio monitors has a 1/4" output.
While on this discussion, let me give you a brief rundown on what's happening when you compose music on your computer. All sound that comes from your computer is analog. Not digital. Digital is not a form of sound, it's only stores data. When you use plug-ins that are digital, they generate (or play an audio sample) digital data. That data which consists of zeros and ones must be converted into analog audio (handled in voltages). All computers have hardware (called a DAC- digital/analog converter) with an algorithm that reads the digital data, and converts it to the specific analog voltage. Then it is outputted to the speakers. In short: Computer generates or reads data, hardware converts digital to analog, and then outputs to the speaker monitors. This means you have two options- 1.) Connect the 1/4" to the monitor or line out of an audio interface such as the Mbox Pro. If you don't own one, I would recommend it because if (most likely when) you start working with hardware audio or live/mic instruments, you'll need this interface that will convert analog audio into digital (and then back to analog). I would purchase the Mbox 3 mini (roughly around $300). It's definitely worth considering the investment. For something cheaper, I would recommend the ESI U24XL USB for around $120. Not as great sound quality, but for the price it does its job well. 2.) You can purchase a 1/4" to 1/8" cable converter that will connect directly to your computer. This however will lose a bit of audio quality because of the lack of quality of the 1/8" inch signal. You probably won't notice it unless you compare. Last edited by KgZ; 07-7-2012 at 10:41 AM.. |

Probably one of my best sounding basses I've ever made. If you ever want a warm sound from Reason, throw down the BV512 Vocoder. It's awesome.
Reason- Combinator Analog Bass- Warm saw bass, emulates analog tape clarity http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49712219/Sou...log%20Bass.cmb Ormix, was that one entire patch, minus the drums? Last edited by KgZ; 07-7-2012 at 05:41 PM.. |

here is the sample, basically I put this one shot sample that I made into my sampler and played the pitched bent notes as a melody... kind of ghetto but I used 3 osc to make this lmao

I basically layered samples in FLs playlist and kept manipulating them in edison and the sampler along with a vst called truc and re sampling the outcome... it was an expiremental process at best, I didn't expect to make this sound. the original 2 samples were a sine wave and saw and through much manipulation and layering and even automation this is what came of it.
