StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
StepMania 5 Tournament Edition (SM5TE) is a modified version of StepMania 5 currently meant for "legit" scoring. (There are other plans, but I won't divulge them at this time.) To that end, the scoring system has been replaced with MIGS (Marvelous Incorporated Grading System), and Marvelous has been forced on. (Sorry, Pump players.)
The changelog is available if you want to go in-depth. There's a preview video available here: http://youtu.be/JQnNu_o-7Ug I am open to suggestions about the theme (aside from "replace it with SMMAX"). I designed the gameplay screen based off of SMMAX in order to try and stop this suggestion before it starts. I'm also open to other suggestions, of course.

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
Bumping this, because this is a good idea and I've suggested tons of features for online scoring/database, features etc
Edit: replay data for top 10 scores on a online scoreboard should be made possible (I know this won't happen for a while but still adding it so I don' forget) Last edited by Staiain; 04-21-2012 at 06:25 PM.. |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
- Life and Judge should be like in 3.9
- Online mode of course - Online database with highscores (If you play online, you scores are submitted automatically to the database. If you play offline, you can choose to submit your scores) - Download option for a song you lack online. So the host sends you the song via p2p and then you are ready to play without restarting SM - Replay function (You can save a replay of the song you just played and then you can upload the replay file wherever you want and people can watch it on their own SM, if they have the song) Pretty much what I had in mind what I'd like to see in the future |

That's what I currently have the settings as but I'm guessing people are going to complain about the life again; I need proper evidence (and hopefully a fix) for it. This is planned, with a new underlying system. Quote:

edit: I should mention that the first release won't have all the planned features implemented; it's meant to be a test run for player feedback and tuning Last edited by aj187; 04-22-2012 at 01:38 AM.. |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
Other than the ones listed above:
Option to turn chord-cohesion off. Ability to map keysettings for different modes (singles/solo,etc.) separately. Merging of scores from the same simfile that are just in different packs. Search option on song select screen also, Quote:
EDIT: added some more

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
not as simple as everyone thinks it is to code.

This is something that'll have to be added later... StepMania's input system is not conducive to having a search option at the moment. nah, it's the same as before; cmods won't disqualify on songs without (significant) BPM changes. |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
Wouldnt it be better to have two separate high scores for files with huge BPM changes, one for cmod and one for xmod?

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
I'll consider it. (I'm assuming m-mods would also count and have a separate score)
btw I fixed the life difficulty problem |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
This is really good news about the lifedifficulty being fixed.
Also about X and C-mods, for songs that will be re-judged to be included in the score database, the judges have to determine if the song should have its own scoreboard for X-mod scores or if it simply is stepped without any intended gimmick bpm changes (or what do you think?) |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
cmods not a DQ on songs without huge bpm changes. Does this mean you'd have to play Ren's Battle Ax on xmod due to stop gimmicks breaking up a section near the end that can just be hit as straight 16ths?

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
Currently, yes.
DQ is being forced on for the initial release. Based on feedback, this may end up being user-configurable and any disqualification would happen elsewhere. (or if I implement different scores per speed mod type, then I just won't have CMods disqualify.) |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
Cmod dq on for files with high bpm changes ESP since some songs have tons of bom changes but are the result of syncing

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
I've decided to not wreck my brain trying to get libmpg123 working in place of libmad for the time being.
The result of this? StepMania 5 Tournament Edition pre001 is now available. http://ssc.ajworld.net/smte/ Please only use this program if you are familiar with StepMania, as this version of the game does not hold your hand. I would like bug reports and feedback, especially as it pertains to the gameplay. Place all such comments/bug reports in this thread, as I don't want them cluttering up the official StepMania 5 bugtracker. |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
I really think the in-game should be a bit less flashy and more minimalistic like this also, the big flashy combo and judgement is okay for playtesting and such but when songs are hard it's distracting
footer and header should be as flat as possible without fields sticking up (like I did with the footer and header i just cropped it. And combo dosen't need a label or there should be an option to turn it off Last edited by Staiain; 04-23-2012 at 05:52 AM.. |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
Pretty much what Staiain said. But in the final version, I'll edit stuff to my liking anyway, haha.
Aside from that, the gameplay runs pretty smooth even on my crappy computer, which I didn't expect so thumbs up for that. It just runs a bit slow overall, but I guess you guys will take care of that in the future |

Re: StepMania 5 Tournament Edition
I am going to suggest the use of this:
until the next release. Place it in Themes/sm5te/Graphics/ScreenGameplay ScoreFrame/ and name it "_full.png". I'll look into the other issues (combo, etc.) for the next version as well. edit: if you play with the score frames only, use this graphic: put it in the same folder as the other one, only name this one "_scores.png" Last edited by aj187; 04-23-2012 at 11:13 AM.. |
