Definition of Chit Chat
Chit Chat is not where things that would be written in a Chat Room are posted. Chit Chat is where you would put things like news articles, anecdotes, or pop culture discussions.
See that last word? Discussions? Forums are for discussions. Not for posting random things you found funny or interesting. They're for discussion. If you found a funny joke, go to FFR CHAT and write it there. It's not for the forums. Yes, we just had an election. Some of you are happy that your candidate won. Don't post about it. Some of you are unhappy that your candidate lost. Don't post about it. We've already established that we cannot have reasoned debates about this kind of thing. So now it goes into the list of banned topics for the forums. If you want to talk about it, take it to another forum or a private chat room. ------ If you're going to post a thread, ask yourself three questions. 1) Will this thread have any discussion at all? If "no", then don't post it. 2) Will the discussion lead to heavy flaming? If "yes", then don't post it. 3) Does the forum benefit from this discussion? If "no", then don't post it. 4) Is my forum name free of numbers, special characters, and random letters (xXnameXx)?

Re: Let me make something clear.
I have no intention of reinstating Iron Law. I am not the judge of a "good" or a "bad" thread.
I'm merely suggesting that everyone stops posting meaningless drivel. |

Mister Squeek, putting down the law!
Chit-Chat is in serious need for members to abide by this. Hopefully all Chit-Chat regulars read and apply this message.

While you're making rules, would you mind making one reinstating that those who mock noobs will be bitchslapped. It's getting ridiculous how hardcore people are being to poor noobs, not giving them a second chance. Like, "YOU FUCIN DOUBLE POSTED YOU FUCIN NOOB IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE RUINING OUR GOOD PLACE OF FFR"

That rule only protects new posters in the Newbie Forum.

Yeah, for new posters, leaving the Newbie Forum is the equivalent of getting out of high school drinking and going to bars. Everything goes fine until some drunk talks to you in a way only you would find offensive, so you beat the **** out of him and you end up in jail getting ravaged by a big bald guy named Butch.

Then you have the idiots who like to take the extra step and go all out. Ironic because normally they're the ones you see getting banned.

Re: Let me make something clear.
Lol, FFR Forums iz srs biznuss and yes, this is a postwhore. But to make this less of a useless post, might I say that in conjunction to making these new rules that leeway be applied to them as well? I mean yeah, the candidate discussions, random threads of meaningless nothingness, etc are totally pointless but it is quite apparent that the mods, or most of them, are overextending their responsibilities as mods. What's funny is some mods and admin agree with this. Squeek, even though you're a mod and should be respected, I respect you but you are an occasional "extender" of your responsibilities if you will. I've seen a few threads in the past that you've locked that could have had potential to be constructive.
I'm just speaking my mind here but then again, with the rules as they are, I'm gonna get banned for free speech against those particular staff who have taken their powers too far.

Show me the threads. I'll show you why I locked them.
They will prove to be an example for others. |

What I'm saying Squeek is you and a few other mods just need to chill, yeah, you can provide the excellent explanations to these things as you do, but don't just kill everyone's excitement about it by locking the thread and telling everyone off in a prick attitude. Just be more lenient towards what people have to say. You say the forums are about discussion? Well that thread was a perfect topic for discussion, though it wouldn't have provided much, it still had potential. Though you being you, cut it short.

Re: Let me make something clear.
I wouldn't go as far as saying that they are unproductive. In an argument here on the forum, I will stand a strong position with my current stance, but I'm always learning something new when I'm arguing with other people and then next time the topic comes up, I may have switched sides.
However, in an environment like Chit-Chat where the responses are "hey you no ure a *** for likin O-man", it ruins it. It's what ruined the "This Looks Shopped" thread for me as well. So what if some reposted a picture that was posted 300 pages ago? The 10-12 response of "repost of a repost of a repost" is even more annoying. ~Tsugomaru

Re: Let me make something clear.
I don't know, after what Squeek explained about it, I figured maybe it could've led into a bit of discussion about unicode, hell I don't know. If that were the case, wouldn't it be interesting for those who knew it? I sure would like to think so.

Re: Let me make something clear.
But it wasn't now was it? Do all topics of discussion have to be aptly named in the threads title? Yeah no, that won't ever happen. Discussion can be found anywhere, under any name, by any person.

Re: Let me make something clear.
Aye, that IS how they should work. But you're not gonna sit here and tell me that how it IS. You're just gonna have to live with the fact that titles are not always gonna exploit what the conversation is going on inside the thread.
