[Forum Suggestion] Report Thread
There are occasional instances of threads that have a ton of low-level content but have no users that can be explicitly reported for "breaking site rules" (despite the "posting low-level content" rule that gets enforced once in a blue moon).
The first post of a thread can be reported in most instances, but if the user responsible for the OP isn't responsible for low-level content, things get kinda confusing. |

+1 to this
It can also encourage reporting of threads that, while promising at first, more or less went downhill. Like when Middie rears his head in the SotW thread. |

Re: [Forum Suggestion] Report Thread
And then the whole thread devolves into "you know how to make sims, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT" and point-by-point rebuttals, etc. etc.
Perhaps we can even report a specific post and say "this is where everything went to hell in a handbasket"

This is where everything went to hell in a handbasket while I see your point, was that really necessary? seldom does middie just come in and rant (sotw is an exception) without being provoked by someone

Re: [Forum Suggestion] Report Thread
Well the current system sends all post reports (that you mentioned) to a separate staff-only subforum titled "Post Reports" (something like that). Each post report is its own thread titled "Reported post by USER", and the information inside is the thread, specific post link, and a reason for reporting.
What you're suggesting right now is a good idea, but a user can already do this with the current system - just report the OP, but in your explanation for the report, say "This thread got derailed, please read" or something so the mod/admin viewing the report knows that the thread needs attention, not just the OP. It's been done like that in the past, and I mean any mod/admin who sees it is able to look the thread over to make a judgement call. Specifying what's up exactly helps too, so for that reason I don't think a new system needs to be created as the current one accounts for your problem for the most part. (I might have misinterpreted your post? But I think I got it right, hope this helps out) EDIT: If it's not clear for users, the staff can always write up a global announcement about what to do in that type of situation and go over the existing Report function again.

Re: [Forum Suggestion] Report Thread
That staff area does absolutely no good for users, and to be honest -- I would like to see the current report system be a bit more streamlined. To expand on this idea, you can have something like: reported post by x (bots, flaming/trolling, etc), reported thread by x (derailing/trolling/etc), reported profile by x (harassment, trolling/flaming/spam posts withe e-mails), reported video by x, etc, all in a way where a person with the access to deal with it can view the context in that particular area in an indifferent way.
As far as this particular idea: having a thread reporting function allows a thread situation to be fully assessed, and not on a user-to-user basis in a way that promotes putting blame on a particular user. I'm not sure if that's how I wanted to say it, but whatever. Remember: the message listed for reporting posts is this Quote:
Not every user is going to report the first post of a thread and say "this entire thread has gotten bad", and reporting a single post in a thread spiraling downward with trolling/flaming/other rule-breaking can lead to unfair treatment (as in not all users involved with derailing become punished). |

Re: [Forum Suggestion] Report Thread
"Problematic post" needs to be refined. I sometimes get reports on idle matters such as an occasional double-posting or thread being in a different forum. If "problematic" refers to hurtful conduct towards user, then none of what I described above falls into that category.
