does anyone have/play this game? I've been trying to beat Nightmare on episode 18 for like 3 days now and it's really annoying, does anyone know any specifics to help me besides get better?

Or am I able to lower the difficulty for this round and raise it for the rest of the game?

Nightmare is a bitch to fight, just play defensively and punish his mistakes. Such as blocking for too long or using unsafe moves. When he blocks for too long do a grab. He will fuck you up if you play too aggressively. Do not hit his when he CEs you should sidestep. If you attack nightmare it will do some damage and if you just stand there and block it you will take an insane amount of damage. Be sure to make use of sidestepping vertical attacks and ducking under horizontal ones. Only use your meter when you know the attack will land. I haven't played ZWEI in a while but I think his A+G grab can combo into a CE, so that's a good use of meter. This is the hardest fight in the story mode imo.

Beat Nightmare, and the rest of the game. The story mode is so short, what is the point in this game?

People wanted a new Soul Calibur so they made it for the hardcore fans. But didn't really work on the single player modes. Compare this games story mode to SCII's weapon master mode. SCII had so much in it compared to SCV. This game was made with only multiplayer in mind, they just added the half assed single player modes after.

The story mode currently in the game is only a quarter of what they planned due to manning and time. Justifiable, but disappointing.
