Weekly Stepfile Contest ?

I was just wondering, with all the new chart artists and people wanting to get into stepping, why not have a weekly stepfile contest? It could help new artists (like me) get more feedback on files and learn new techniques. Maybe there could be a few judges like 3 or 4 and every week judges get switched.

This is just an idea I had a few moments ago, but I think it would be pretty cool to have.

we tried doing this, and many variations of this. the problem is that people are periodically lazy and it will die very quickly. it would be great if people could commit to this though.

it helped to a certain point but again, people got lazy (including myself)

I have no problem helping people out to make solo files though. That's never been a motivation issue for me.

I remember something like this back on DF (step wars) and it was good, but people got busy (or lazy) and it eventually stopped altogether

i'd only do it if it were solo

in theory the stepfile tourney would be great but I think it would have to be one file per person and a pannel of judges decides the best one. idk someone else do this

get GD to do it

instead of ffrcp autumn 2012, let's make the tourney and then release the files as the autumn pack. this'll probably be a good way to offset the 76912876493876 files that were in summer 2012.

Stepfile tourney? I'm not at all against it, but how would it be different from a contest?

contest would be shorter and easier to run. but simfile making is so subjective it would spark a lot of controversy.

maybe think of something original? something that hasn't been done before (good luck)

in case nobody wants to believe this let me provide a legit example:
kommi ran a stepfile tourney a while ago
my second round file simultaneously got the lowest and highest scores given by an individual judge out of the entire tourney

Doing away with numerical ratings and moving towards an anonymous vote/tier-point system would probably remedy at least some of the issues with subjectivity, imo

Every time I do it people stop really submitting by the 2nd time around. I'd love to keep doing them.

There is a planned StepCon for FFR shortly after the tournament concludes. But this won't be a weekly thing, it's a lot of work to co-ordinate and at this point there is no knowing how many people will participate or how long it will take to sort out winners, etc. This will be running around the same time of the next menu music competition~
