Not FFR specifically, but since FFR lead me to stepmania, playing the game so much has given me a way to think about music and break it down in my head and thus a greater appreciation for rhythmic and melodic elements. Basically, rhythm gaming got me to appreciate music.

however, ffr does NOT help you at piano. in fact, I've been playing piano for many years and all it did was imbalance my hands and fingers and now I can't do my scales right anymore. for piano, ffr was a plague upon my hands

I seriously question how it improves reaction time though. I don't see it.

Well, I think of it this way. When I first started it took me forever to FC Super Mario and I couldn't read streams at all. After playing for several months I got comfortable with more complicated and faster patterns that I definitely couldn't do when I first started. I don't necessarily think of it as just getting practice on harder songs, I think of it as getting the reflexes to be able to do those harder songs.

This. Before I played FFR, I really didn't care for music because I wasn't ever exposed to music that I liked. FFR introduced me to actual techno instead of the 2 or 3 stereotypical techno songs.

It has nothing to do with reaction time though. All it is is getting comfortable with patterns, recognizing them, and hitting them as almost instinct. Maybe initially there's a little bit of reaction involved, but afterwards it's all natural feel.

I think it can help with reaction time if you work on being able to play on faster speedmods. The faster the scroll rate, the less time the arrow is on the screen, so the faster your reaction time needs to be in order to hit it.
