Hickeys only go away once you have done the proper amount of penance for your deeds. Hickeys, you see, are God's way of marking you as a sinner for all your peers to see. They are the result of doing sinful and naughty things that displease God. The hickey can only be removed through application of holy water at your local church or through days of prayer and repentance. Over time, as you repent, the hickey should begin to fade away, signifying that God has begun to delve deep into his eternal wells of forgiveness to heal you.
Should you neither repent nor seek clerical help, the hickey will stay with you through this life and the next, marking you for rejection from God's heavenly abode. Enjoy hell, ****er.
