Screencutting has zero effect on lag. Also, it's useless in technical terms, but psychologically it helps some people even though all it is is an omission of information.

thats what I thought at first. Why do it when your just giving yourself less time to read the arrows? but then I say ppl like Smitty using 1.5x and speed mods and I thought id give it a try

i find it hard to focus on the arrows sometimes with all the black...so i might go down to 1.5x and try screencut

same. eliminates the black, better focusing on the arrows.

i cut to right below the bottom of the combo, and i use 1.25x

Yeah maybe it could help me figure out why I can AAA 6-footers but FC very few 9-footers.

Maybe I need to try screencutting? It also would be nice to have a 1.875 speedmod, too, if it were possible.

By the by, speedmods helped me immeasurably too. I play MUCH better with 1.50x or 1.75x than I do 1x.

its only psychological if you play 1x screencut. I personally don't like it because to play 1x or 1.25x screencut I couldn't see my combo or perfects, which i cant stand. I tend to play 1.75x screencut to just below the combo, but if there was somewhere ~1.85-9 I would be happy too

Re: What is the point of using screencut?

I never really thought of screencutting as something trying to accomplish the same thing as speed mods. I thought it was more of a "note density" issue rather than the notes "being seen for too long".

I think that the more spread out notes are, the easier they are to read. Not quite the same effect as simply seeing them for less time.

Screen-cutting basically screwed up my ability to play well; on the other hand, but speed mods really helped me. I managed to accumulate around 20-ish Tier Points at normal speed... but my recent switch to x1.25 has helped me get to the 130's. I had no idea it would help so much.

Oh yeah, and trying x1.0 on PLANETZ made me get almost 50 av-misses. Even though I've FC'ed it before on x1.25.

IMO 1.5x is perfect for any purposes

Screencutting simulates using a speed mod because the arrows are in your vision for the same amount of time, you comprehend the same amount of arrows and your reaction time is cut. I prefer using screencut on 1.0x because it appears the least choppy and I get fewer av-misses because the arrows move slower and hitting a little early appears more natural. You should try everything and see what works best for you, but for me screencutting simulates a speed mod in FFR really well. 1.25x is ok with a little less screencut but I prefer 1.0x.

For that reason I just use autofail now and then and try to see the arrows centered in the receptors, see a white flash and play to the music.

I use 1.25x speed mod, with a bit of screen shrink.

I like it because I don't get lag...because otherwise the lag would be horrible. That and I'm just too used to used to screenshrinking instead of speed mods.
