Default Re: 2016 January/February Set 5

Gradiant finished the primary judge task for January/February 2016 Set 5. The notes can be seen below; this thread is being moved over to Completed Sets and the results/notes will be updated in the January/February 2016 thread.

[4.5/10] Allegiance {Mourningfall} (Mourningfall)
• Confusing metadata, is this called Allegiance or Gold?
• The swing piano is more prominent than the faint shuffling sounds your 8ths are to, so majority of the file feels like I’m either playing to a bunch of misrhythms of the swing patterning or completely ignoring the swing of the song
• Throughout the file, hands don’t go to any different sound with more emphasis than what jumps are going to, they should just all be jumps
• 23.802: Song is 12ths here, not 16ths
• 29.331 - 30.437: What is this section going to?
• 35.414: The 24th/16th patterning here is a misrhythm
• 1:08.041: You have 16ths with some awkward minijacks on (1) and (4) when the song is actually just ascending 12ths
• Overall, confusing layering due to ignoring the louder swing piano except for tiny blips when there’s 16ths and 24ths, but in those sections the patterning ends up being a misrhythm not matching the song. Unnecessary hand usage as well.

[6.5/10] Blue Army V2 {DJ Sharpnel} (DarkZtar)
• DZ - 09/05/2016: i sent it to give ppl something else they could spam for vrofl ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
• DZ - 09/05/2016: its all accurate but ofc its overstepped
• I don’t know about something intentionally overstepped for the sole purpose of having something to spam for grandtotal; especially when majority of the song is cut so all there is is just immediate jumpstream dump
• Super hard to hear any bigger emphasis at all for what hands are used for in this file; plays/sounds like they’re just markers for the player to know when a number of bars of jumpstream is done, nothing else
• 2.418 - 45.887: Yellow jump at 45.475 out of place with this section’s layering, making it a (2) would remove the 4 yellow in a row on (1) as well. I like how jump columns change with ascending vocals and there’s sometimes repeated jumps for repeated vocal pitch.
• 45.887 - 47.204: The vocals here land on 46.463, 46.710, and 47.039. So the second and third yellow jumps should be shifted up to the blues. For the jump at 46.463, the (13)(24) is also an awkward jump pattern to hit with the current base (1)(4) trill.
• 47.533, 47.780, 48.192, 48.851, 49.509: Faint background 16ths aren’t being layered here so these instances play like ghost notes
• 49.839: Now it starts getting a bit messy with the layering change. I can see what the jumps are going to and it’s reasonable, but with the added number of jumps in this section, the overabundance of (13)(24) or (24)(13) is extremely awkward to play as it adds a ton of one-hand minitrills and 3 note anchors in the jumpstream which are then copypasted
• 1:34.871: Same issue with the ghost notes as 47.533
• 1:36.930: Should be single with current layering
• 1:37.259: No idea what you’re layering in this section. Bass kick jumps on reds but there’s several reds that are singles, blue synth jumps but there’s blue singles with same sound like at 1:40.058 or 1:45.327, inconsistent lengths of sections of broken jumpstream over the song’s constant background of synth 16ths
• 2:19.410: Now the layering gets really messy. Jumps for bass kick, vocals, and offset synth is pretty dumpy/overlayered and the extra jumps on top of what was used for 49.839 creates even more of the same issue as that earlier section.
• 3:01.562: Direction of roll isn’t dependant on any sound in the song, so this jumptrill through the roll and jumptrill just after could be mirrored for variety rather than copied from the first usage of it earlier.
• 3:04.773: Note here a tad earlier than the actual annunciation of the vocal
• 3:07.078: Ghost note
• 3:08.313: 3 notes starting here could follow PR a bit better, like the 3 notes starting at 3:08.642

[4/10] Rocket {Gabbangelion} (Xtreme2252)
• Still don’t have permission for this. Along with improper crediting.
• Still offsync, especially near the ending when the incorrect bpm leads to an entirely yellow section
• Layering issues from when I judged it last time are still there
• Sending another version of the file without getting notes for the first version. Practically the same file that was rejected the first time except you changed the jacks into trills; That change doesn’t make up for the other issues.

[4.5/10] Year of the Bad Dragon {The Quick Brown Fox} (Xtreme2252)
• Correct bpm, but the wrong offset. All the notes are currently a bit earlier than the sounds they go to
• 2.118: Missing note
• 15.740: hand here?
• 0 - 15.990: You’ve got jumps to vocals, but here’s a great spot to also follow the pitch of the vocals as they’re the melody
• 16.990 - 33.990: Messy jump usage, pick which sounds you want to put jumps to and stick to that throughout the whole section. Missing jumps in spots like 22.990, 27.490 - 27.740, etc. And spots like 24.365 and 24.615 have jumps when that sound in the rest of this section are singles. The 64th bursts are also actually 5-note bursts starting on red and ending on yellow (all instances of this burst cut the sound short)
• 20.302: Missing note
• 24.552: Missing note
• 30.490 - 30.865: Same
• 25.490: These are actually 5-note bursts starting on red and ending on yellow
• 33.990 - 41.740: Section is only vocal sample with nothing else, so there could be much greater care to put notes matching the vocal pitch so it doesn’t play like random columns
• 41.740 - 48.990: same thing with following the vocal pitch, but only inbetween the triplet drum sections
• 49.990 - 1:04.989: Same issues as above points with inconsistent jump usage, missing 32nd notes between jumps that you’ve been putting in elsewhere, and incorrect 64th bursts.
• 1:05.364: This note on (2) and next one on (1) would work better with vocal pitch
• 1:05.990 - 1:28.990: Same point as 33.990 - 48.990
• 1:28.990 - end: Same issues thing as 49.990 - 1:04.989, but now including 32nd ghost notes starting at 1:58.490
• 1:59.990: Same point as 33.990
• Highly recommend going through entire file again checking for places where pitch relevancy can be followed better (33.990), inconsistent usage of jumps and 32nd notes between jumps, and making sure your bursts fit the sounds in the song, correct notesnap and making sure the length of the burst matches the sound
