dl'ing, gonna edit the post with a review in a little

Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
I love gabba doesn't like his file either ya know.
Originally he sent it to kommisar because he wanted a detailed review of what was lacking in his file. And the file got accepted. . Personally I found the file to be too linear to really construe the song. You can make a lot of different gimmicks and round off with a very original file, but it's like you said "NOPE" and wanted to be ultra minimalist on how you chose to step it. Better than gabba's but not satisfacting to me yet. :((((( I'm really looking forward to a file that would actually give the impact it deserves in term of style. |
Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
I really dig this. This file was hella fun to play. 5/5 :3

Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
I liked gabba's file because of its simplicity and how it reflected some older classic files. otherwise I guess it wasn't rEvOlUtioNarY but nothing technically awful about it.
having said that, this is pretty great. I'd like to see this for solo as well ;) |

Glad to know you like it though. A solo file for this would definitely be interesting. |
Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
Well, HST is also minimalistic, somehow. But I like his style better because his style seems to focus on a better harmony between the impact of the song and the impact of the style, it's a more *essential* way to step a song, anyway.
Maybe I'm too conceptual in my approach of SIMFILE MAKING but you could say that's just how I attempt to grasp the critical part in what I like and what I dislike. The only objection I have is how you view the song as a continuity of "steps" and give a minimal fluctuation in your style wether a very sound would be in a calm part or in an agressive part, it seems like if in your mind, this sounds deserve a "jump", you'll put a "jump" everywhere, or maybe add notes regarding the number of "notes" played at that time of the beat. All in all I see a bunch of notes that, even though they technically match the time the sounds are played, don't really match what is exactly happening, how your brain views it. For instance, in a short stream of percussion notes, you put a jump everytime an extra snare is played. This is technically correct, but it may not fit the song by how you're perceiving it. That's essentially the problem I had. Don't take it as a very grave critic. I don't want to say that everybody should view stepfile making like that and this is actually a good thing that there's perpetually a high variety of approaches in simmaking and so much way to stop one only song. That's ultimately a matter of perspective. Love. <3 |
Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
I don't like my file cause I'm better than this and I stepped it when I was like 13, but I played it last week and it wasn't technically ''wrong'' so yeaaah. It would be so different if I stepped it now, but whatever I'm gonna try yours!
(btw this is i love gabba I changed my name 3 years ago) |

Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
8 months break/4 months come-back, played more FFR than Stepmania etc. but now I'm into Stepmania a lot more, I stepped some files I just don't know where to release them/how to send em to FFR etc...
---- I played the file and it's cool, I don't see much difference between the two files because of the song's structure itself but your file is much more ''structured'' than mine and makes more sense (and you don't have to wait 20 seconds for the song to start) |
Re: Hand Throw / Venetian Snares (AlexDest)
Pretty cool file overall, the mines were gay but I won't put the file for that. It only adds some difficulty. It had good structure, the freezes flowed, and your avoiding of 64ths/48ths/32nds was pretty noticeable. I know that's generally how you step things like that to stick to the MA side, so I think this is a great file and keeps the difficulty constant through the entire thing.
Good job brobopboop |
